surely he has a date he is aiming for even if he thinks it may change. As long as he makes it clear he cant give a solid date i dont think people would get mad if it turned out to be inaccurate.

My point is, this is THE question, he shouldnt be dodging it like he is. if he really has no idea then even that would be something to say.
Whilst Yoshida does keep us up to date with what we're to expect and what he's been working on (which is very nice of him) I really doubt telling us a date like that is so simple.

Square-Enix is a business and as such has standards. Yoshida isn't the only person working on this game!
For example, he doens't just write letters to players and then post them. They need to be cleared with the rest of the team first! This is evident from this particular piece he wrote -

So, um, I haven’t actually told the marketing team about these screenshots yet, so they’re probably going to get mad. At any rate, our internal testing is over, and we’re bracing ourselves for the actual alpha.
I don't even want to think about how much trouble he got himself into there!
The man has a job and as such is expected to follow rules and guidelines. He can't just throw out a bunch of stuff simply because he feels like it or people want it, real life does not work like that.

On top of all of that, the Yoshida we have come to love over time from his work with the press and letters to the players might not even be what Yoshida is like at all!
This could easily be a marketing scheme pullng the wool over our eyes.

Fact is we do not know what happens in his office or any other offices for that matter. What we do know is that Yoshida and his team are working damned hard. Cut them some slack ya' big meanie, especially if not knowing a date isn't even related to him.
