If that's the Path of the Twelve quest I'm thinking of then yep, even though you 'met' one (or 2 in Gridania's case) in the Main City State quests. In the Ul'dah storyline, Ascilia is able to remember you because she has the Power of the Echo, while Thancred even though he's aware of The Echo, he cannot.

Not so. Thancred has felt the echo. After all, he tells you that he will continue to search for the one who gave him this power. He remembers you, because you were instrumental in witnessing Nielle's murder. And he even gives you your quest reward.

He simply hasn't seen you in ten years.
