Thanks for that writeup Anonymoose. It just seems so strange that pretty much most of what you experienced up until meeting with Minfilia was mostly flashbacks. Maybe I was just unwilling to accept that and put 2&2 together. I think the most interesting part was the similarities in their name. (both containing steel, one of which being one that can represent having fallen from grace) I'm not sure how much you know about the Ul'Dah or Gridania storylines, but do they share this same quality in that there's a lot of Echo cutscenes?

I have all of my Marauder cutscenes recorded. I could encode them and upload them to Youtube. (I'm sure they're already there if you really wanted to watch them) Unfortunately ZAM doesn't have the Journal entries posted like it does for some of the other class quests, and I've already uninstalled my game. All I can get from the Marauder quest series is that Rostnsthal was ultimately digging up dirt on Caravalain (the fancy male pirate seen on The Executioner) to hand in to Reyner. He was trying to get some money for the information, but maybe he was ultimately trying to get back in with the Barracudas. He of course has you doing all the dirty work. Once Reyner refuses his offer, I think he has you give the information to Hylfyrr. (the pirate captain whom Merlwyb defeated in the Trident)

It probably goes without saying that the Marauder quest, along with every other quest in the game prior to Yoshi-P's arrival, were incomplete and a lot more could have been done with them.

Probably what they mean by the original quests being "scrapped". Probably just rewritten so there aren't any inconsistencies, or made clearer when they take place.

I like how you mention that doing older quests are basically like "flashbacks". It's like when you play Assassin's Creed, and it tells you the year of the mission you're currently doing. So you know when it takes place.

Yes they do from the very beginning. Gridania is more clear as you even get light headed before following E-sumi to Gridania and you hear the last bit of "answers song" whereas in Ul'dah is only petals flying and Limsa Lominsa is the sight of the Sea Serpent.
