So the story thus far....

Been kinda busy myself with GW2 and MoP until recently and only was able to accomplish the main Scenario (the one that only goes to rank 46). Upon its completion I realized that the story thus far leading up to the giant moon thingie steadily approaching Eorzae is not part of this... So with days before the Impact/Servers going down ive realized I wont be able to finish it this late in finding out about it.

So far from what ive watched from the full "To Kill a Raven" cutscenes is that Garlean General mc.bada** means to gain powers from this super big planet thing while talking about destruction and rebirth and you kick his butt. Upon his butt being kicked the floatie island falls apart ala cliche action movie style. Following this you see a scene of many people clapping and rejoicing however it seems Eorzae is still fated to go boom (according to that same moon thing being in the sky).

From some players ive talked to claim that its a "side" story that leads up to the events of 2.0 and im really not missing anything. Im failing to see the side story aspect of it since there are the main characters from the main scenario. Also to include there seems to be a hot and sexy young Cid along with a smokin female galka person along with some other interesting characters wearing red mage ponchos. Also with the rebirth vidoes it seems that the old fart elvaan guy that no ones likes becomes useful by sending you to the future.

So is there someplace I can refer to the story thus far or should i watch the cutscenes on youtube? Im hoping for a simple recap but if its easier to watch the videos, at which mission forward should i watch since the starter quests for the companies is gathering dirt on the other companies.... It just feels like im missing a lot going into 2.0 since i had no clue that the rank 46 mission was the last "main story" mission....

I guess you could think of it as a sidestory. Gaius was leading the main invasion of Aldenard/Vylbrand, but Darnus somehow fell in better favor with the Emperor and was allowed to put Gaius' campaign on the backburner in favor of the Dalamud Project. From a military standpoint, it would have been easier to just crush the enemy in one fell swoop, rather than getting into a conventional war (kind of like the US decision to use nuclear weapons on Japan rather than invade Japan during WWII).

Once 2.0 starts, it appears as though we're going to pick up where we left off (reclaiming Ala Mhigo).

Someone uploaded all the cut scenes in the game... but I'm not sure who it was. Hopefully someone can provide a link.

Yeah i was really hoping that was the case. Then again thinking back, reborn is taking place in the far future so most of those iconic characters you meet get phased out (that depends how far in the future they go) but i didn't find out how far to the future they go.

Well, thats not really long at all, hope Im not skipping too many specific details. Too late to worry about it now I suppose.

I just checked the page for this storyline on the Final Fantasy wiki and it provides a good summary. It's a little long, but reading it should be much faster than watching all of the cutscenes.
