why must we squat everytime we use an Instant Ability.

Is this really necessary? Wil it be removed in 2.0 or are there any plans to change it?

Looks dumb, breaks immersion and locks animation .

The animation locks makes alot of abilties weaker because it does a few things.
It stops dps time and can ruin combos by running out time.
Makes using abilties when kiting weaker since you get smacked in ass when you stop to squat. Also when tanking as warrior the squat animation causes you to take more damage before you use your aoe weaponskill(which may force a heal causing mob to attack whm).
Animation-lock also causes people to die when they wouldnt if they didnt have to squat before using their ability. Like ifrit or other areas of death.

Why did the devs think it was good idea to keep the ability animation-lock from ffxi?

These abilties also arent true instant casts as well. They have animation lock caused by the squat. So thats less ways to quickly react to things. Since we are limited by the squat. Like boss abilities. Imagine if you could quickly sentinel, rampart /etc before a boss ability .

It is especially bad looking for black mage who use buffs back to back. Squat squat squat squat cast thundara .

In 2.0 battles will be "Much faster" it makes animation locking squatting abilties out place and more punishing. In pvp this is pretty annoying to have.

IF WE MUST HAVE ANIMATIONS, PLEASE CAN WE HAVE VARIETY?

Why does it have to be a squatting motion for EVERY SINGLE instant cast ability. Why does it have to look the same for every ability.
    Paladin uses sentinel squat
    Black mage uses excruiate squat
    Monk uses second wind squat
    Whm uses sacred prism squat

I think this is wasted potential . If the animation lock must exist why not give some variety in animations. The squat -lock is kind of counter productive for one of the reasons to play ffxiv which is superb animations.

ok im leveling crafting which why im posting random threads. Theres many things in games that tick me off . The little things like this. Which if all improved would make a much better experience for me.

There are no such animations locks in 2.0. GO back to any old footage released with battle. As for squatting animation for every ability: that's just how S-E always did it - one type of animation move for one type of "use" (e.g. squatting for abilities, other stuff for magic etc.) The different was with the animations around you. I agree more diversity would be good though.

Animation lock does not exist in the ARR battle system. This has been a key talking point for a while now.

I like it 100x better than most generic MMO where you use an ability you just get particle effect* and your character has no kind of reaction to an ability being used.

I don't see how it could be diverse beyond racial differences which I believe they said they actually aren't planning to do. Maybe that will change.

    *Obviously the effect varies.

Really? Combat has always been may main source of enjoyment in games. Playing ffxiv vanilla has made me fustrated many times with the clunky animations and mechanics. If 2.0 has really improved this i will be happy.

I do get stressed in games and in many times in ffxiv i have raged cus of clunkyness and squat-lock is a source of frustration for me.

You know what is HILARIOUS though? watching kiters that keep squatting and getting smacked in the ass cos they don't realize that stopping to use abilities is worse then just running and keeping distance.

Never been a fan of the "action squat". It can't help but look like a very aggressive fart.

but seriously, not having any true instants is kind of annoying. having animation lock with weaponskill animations is one thing, and i don't really mind it too much... but every single thing animation locks you. combined with the server latency it's pretty awful.

while in 2.0 they'll resolve latency issues and improve weaponskill animation speed, if triggering instants still animation locks you it's going to limit what they can do with battles by virtue of players being limited in what they can do. freeing up players to move without restriction allows for more mobility in battle design, which should open the door to greater variety and challenge.

the question remains, though- how would they do it? most MMOs do this by having instants trigger a little graphic or animation not specific to the character. like two crossed swords above their head, some blue field underneath them, etc. that lets you know the ability has fired successfully without hampering character movement. square could keep the animations as character-specific movements, but then they'd have to allow those animations to be clipped in order to keep them as true instants- and that can look really awkward (and i'm sure people would moan about immersion)

or maybe this is all just premature conjecture. we still haven't seen exactly what the alpha test will bring.
