As others have said the devs never stated current players cannot change servers at launch. In fact I am pretty sure you will be forced to choose a server at 2.0 launch.

The only thing stated is existing characters will not be able to join a New Player server.

Its only been said that existing players cant go to new servers so I very well think we can switch to existing servers.

I think that will be the case because for example my current server might end up Japanese, and I am EU with many of my LS friends US and likely want a closer data center.

Logic dictates that this is correct, but we all know what most forum posters do with logic; they throw it out the window to conclude the most illogical scenario they possibly can, and spread that misinformation as certain truth until patch notes prove otherwise.

The servers are not becoming Region specific.. They are placing servers in different parts of the world so people who are Obsessed with minimizing latency will stfu. The server you pick will have very little if any impact on your game play. Populations will probably not change all that dramatically.

It doesnt matter if the server is labelled regional, the fact that X server is for US and Y Server is for JP will mean more US will go to X and more JP will go to Y.

Players will create the segregation because it makes sense to the individual's choice of server.

That said i dont know much about the whole system, it could be I can be on Gungnir through EU Datacenter and you could be on Gungnir through US datacenter and a JP be also on Gungnir through JP datacenter, i just dont see how that works with how much i know of datacenters.
