what if not? ;XD 1 1/2 years of developing the char editor.. and then they are going to implement the other hairstyles within 2 months till beta oder what? really doubtful.
maybe SE sees no need for more hairstyles or whatever. or it is to "complicated" to implement this with taking all emotes and armors into concideration.
i think this will be one of SE's arguments. like "complex openworld cities" are not possible on ps3 architecture *looks at FF13* argument and why it ended linear.
1-2 different scars? oh come on..

I believe ... like the other races... that the other implemented content is simply not selectable at this time
First, to make it clear, I love the character creator video and everything in it. But this argument doesn't really stand up to scrutiny. The other races and classes are there, but grayed out. Meanwhile, the number of hair, face, etc options is explicitly defined. I personally would not be put out if what we saw here is what we get, though I would not say no to more options; but I would not get your hopes up too high that they are going to release more options.
The reps have responded to the issue, saying that there would be more options, but their response was rather evasive. I'm holding out cautious optimism for more, but I honestly am not expecting much.
It does stand up, because all the grayed out options you mentioned were just clickable text. But the options we're talking about (such as hair or face) have clickable thumbnail icons. It stands to reason that if they haven't finished those yet or don't want to reveal them, then they wouldn't have icons for them either to gray out in the first place.First, to make it clear, I love the character creator video and everything in it. 1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiUmRujYUrA1. The amazing amount of IMPROVEMENT in character creation. (don't think so? please show me one that looks better)
2. The hard work teams of developers have put in.
3.The large ALPHA symbol denoting things will be added and changed for the better
4. How stunningly beautiful it was!
5. How excited I was that the game is being rebuilt from the ground up.
6. My Appreciation that they actually posted a video for me to watch.
I did noticed flaws (all personal dislikes) but then again this is an ALPHA version and its not me spending countless hours designing a game.
in closing if you didn't notice it before... its still in ALPHA.
2. We can't really determine this until we're playing, but we do know they're making this a standard MMO, so good chance it will play and flow like every other MMO in the past 7 years.
Alpha really means little as you don't really see such a large gap of changes between Alpha and beta (ignoring the obvious), you'll see some different stuff like more shaders and a few more options here and there, but Alpha is pretty much what the final game will be like as the alpha for XIV ARR is a stress test more than a bug finding mission which means they're very confident in the design they have completed.
Btw, there's already a feature in XIV 1.0 that allows you to use other race's hairstyles that isn't active, that will likely be the "more choices for hairstyles" that get put in by late beta or after launch.
We have FAR MORE to worry about if they spent longer than a few months on the CC.
do believe it or not.. there are different teams working on different things.. i doubt that any other development department will be affected by it.
and indeed the char creation is ONE BIG important factor.. its what new players see for their first time when logging into the game.. and when they see (oh i have just 4 faces to chose from, 1-2 scars? wtf? clonewars?)
especially in a game like FFXIV where individuality should be even more important, because you play for 80% of the time the one and only character.
they want to show a new editor? with almost exactly the character indiviualisations?
its just the presentation which changed greatly.
