Exactly like FFXI and PS2, I take it? PS3 won't be able to get the DirectX 11 patch when the dev team does it for ARR, though.
The PS3 does not use any form of DirectX, it uses openGL. Also, because it's GPU is based on a 7800 nVidia chip, it doesn't meet the hardware requirements for PhysX (taken from here), so they can't add it to the PS3.
What they could do is use a custom physics engine, like they do now. Though it's only a basic one that affects how your equipment interacts between each other, in some cases adding clipping issues compared to not having it enabled.
Would be great if they could expand it so that running through grass actually makes the grass part in your way. Even if they could only implement it for the PC version, it shouldn't be a problem, physics being eye candy and the PC version looking better than the PS3 one in the first place.
