Char creation disappointment?

No offense here, but I really hope the developers don't get hung up on this sort of thing. It's like every piece of information that comes out of ARR results in the most nitpicking suggestions from some people in the community. To be frank this is so unimportant in the grand scheme of things and I really hope it's just the result of not having a public alpha or beta yet where people can start making meaningful suggestions to the developers.

What you need to understand is the developers do have limited resources. Expecting development attention for what is pretty much a personal request is just wasting their time. Pointing out a fatal flaw in the observed usability of the new character creator and trying to get development attention would be a good example of a topic to discuss. Taking the time to discuss adding a hairstyle that you want isn't.

I only bring this up because SE has shown a real desire to listen to the community as a whole so the amount of actual, important constructive criticism the community is able to give has the very real possibility of shaping the game for the better. But if you want to see how a community who is focused on personal satisfaction can ruin a game, go take a look at Tera.

I like individuaility, and only having 6 to choose from is sad to say the least. Where are longer hairstyles? Why don't races share some of the same hairstyles? Come on SE, give us more to choose from.

I have to say: if you like individuality, don't play a Miqo'te. :P And for the record, if you went through the Lalafell character creator, you'd look at the Miqo'te one and go "Hey, no fair, why do they get so many hairstyles??"

This is only the Alpha version, they likely will release more hairstyles in Beta, and for sure with ARR release.

I was dissapointed with the char creation video yeah. Mostly because of the bust slider the max size was at best the same as mithra in ff11 by default, good for loli cat fans maybe.

My 2nd complaint is colors. For example, the hair colors like 2 colors are vibrant and the rest are dull. I like the change on the mi'quote eyes though.

I agree with you, Ladon. Enix do have limited resources and it would be a dreadful shame if game content suffered as a result of an improved creation system.

However with that being said, one of the main pulls of FF MMOs is the attachment to your character. Many players don't treat their presence in game as a visual avatar, they treat like they would their own physical body! This is a big pull that Enix has a monopoly over due to only needing one character to experience multiple aspects and the entirety of the game's story line.
Hell, I imagine players make their own stories through their intense experiences through party-based content! Aren't Enix really proud of their storylines? I'm sure they're always trying to push them on us and draw in an audience that would appreciate them to their fullest.

Whilst stories don't particular matter to me, my appearance outside of the game does. Why would this change for me in-game, too? I'd like to point out that this comment is horribly contradictive in regards to my last comment!

Finally... we're in 2012.
5-6 styles to choose from for your hair is dripping with early 2000 nostalgia. In a bad way. Remember the year 2000 was a decade ago now!

I'm sure there's a balance out there between quality in both game and creation.

Kinda that's all and good, but actual new hair styles would be great
like i said before all the extra features in customization in the char creation are fine - nothing wrong with them, just after the hair. Hopefully though Rukkirii's comment about more customization in later builds cover default hair styles. Thanks Fadigre ('w')

It's funny, even though I had played XI for years it never bothered me during that period, but now looking back at the character models they all look really creepy.

I too was disappointed not to see more variety in the character creator but I think the slim pickings is probably due to it being alpha. Maybe they only ported over existing data to keep the download small, they're not quite ready to publish the new models, or it was just too much bulk to bother with just for server stress tests.

So not having much at this point doesn't surprise me, but I'd be pretty let down if there isn't a plethora of hair styles to choose from come retail launch.
You can spend eons crafting the slope of your characters chin or the shape of their nose to be just right but the only thing really anyone will ever recognize you besides your general race/gender is your hair. If they want to expand uniqueness amongst player characters it really starts there.

2-4 more hairstyles at least for the races would be great. this is just the standard which we had in 1.0.

but i like the appearance of the char editor itself.. and the music.
