It's still more then what we have now. :SThanks OP for this. We really do need more hair variety!
Based on Yoshi-P's response from the Letter from the Producer, it transcribed loosely as "We're seeing about distributing different hair types across all of the races" or something to that extent. Which leads me to believe they're just going to implement those hidden data files from 1.0 of ported hairstyles. Which leads me to feel disappointed.
I hope something was lost in the translation of that transcription and he meant something else. :/
All the more reason to bring it up.
Addressing the thread in general, there are more than a few folks in this thread that have become accustomed to knee-jerk "oh, another complaint thread" anytime a thread comes into existence. (>.> ) I think folks should back away and consider the validity of the complaint again, objectively, instead of simply saying "oh, it's the forums, it must be dumb."
Familiarity breeds contempt, and sometimes that puts you in the wrong. An objective mind is always good. ( >.>) Let's not ever forget that.
For my part,
I'd love to see this for hyuran girls. Favorite hairstyle ever. (>> ) Bit different than what we have at the moment.
Asking for more hairstyle variance is a far cry from complaining about low-res grass, by the way. <.<
EDIT:
I interpreted that response from Yoshi P in the same way, and I was quite disappointed to hear it. (>.> ) I'm no game developer to be sure, but amongst all the things they are doing, surely coming up with a few new hair designs would not be a great difficulty. Few days of brainstorming and development. They can even use designs from older FFs. This isn't a major difficulty, and should not be made out to be one by ostensible white knights (I say this as a Paladin) because it's really a remarkably basic and easy thing in the grand scheme of MMO design. Thanks OP for this. Didnt he answered like that? "its not that easy to implement new hairstyles because they need to be modalized for each equipmen/helmet as well?I interpreted that response from Yoshi P in the same way, and I was quite disappointed to hear it. It is quite possible that I missed that. With that caveat declared,
this is Final Fantasy we're talking about here.
Big hair is what we are all about.
EDIT: Also,

I... I just want my old FFXI Elvaan's hair back.I was so disappointed with the hair they replaced it with, too many bobby pins/hair clips! Although... I hope if they do bring it back it's more like the mod that people had used.
Such a cute hairstyle, I miss it! :<
I know it's alpha and we will probably see more, but it's good we have threads like this so SE knows what to focus on a bit more. As unimportant as some people may think it is, I think hairstyles are very important in an MMO. It's one of the first things people notice about your character after they've laughed of been amazed by your gear. It would be nice to see every 20 people I see with my hairstyle instead of every other guy on the server.
"More hair styles would be great! I agree with the above poster, hair style is one of the most important visual characteristics of our characters and it really helps distinguish you in a group."I know it's alpha and we will probably see more, but it's good we have threads like this so SE knows what to focus on a bit more. Negative. Hats and helms are. Seriously if SE got rid of "/display hat off" these stupid threads wouldn't exist
More hair styles would be great! I agree with the above poster, hair style is one of the most important visual characteristics of our characters and it really helps distinguish you in a group. Currently, it seems to me that:
- there are a few hairstyles that are super popular
- some races have extremely limited hair options (poor Lalas!)
- there are few enough hairstyles per race that even the less popular ones are still seen a lot with the more popular races (ex: Miqo'te)
So, I think we could really use some more hairstyles to reduce the feeling of sameness and give players more choices.![]()
As for simply making hairstyles usable across races . . . I have mixed feelings. On one hand, I could get cute pigtails on a Hyur! On the other hand, I feel that having race exclusive hairstyles gives people more incentive to play races they might not otherwise choose ("oh, forget Hyur, I can get have those cat ears and a cute curled hairstyle!"), and to help further differentiate the races visually.
For 2.0, I have pretty much resigned myself to the fact that the female Miqo'te that I am planning to play will have a zillion hair-twins running around. But perhaps, I will be pleasantly surprised.
Hi-top fade or bust.
Enough with the anime influenced hair. The hi-top fade has it all. Aerodynamics, a throwback-vibe. Women hate it, men love it.
