[Suggestion] Target switching while fighting a Group

(please don't tell me this has already been posted, please don't tell me this has already been...)

    Heya!

    Let's imagine the scenario first:

You are in the verge of beginning a levequest, and as you touched the aetheryte with it, you start wandering into the lands of [place here], and suddenly you meet a group of 2 Stray Dodos.

You start to fight with Dodo A while Dodo B is keeling and sleeping you.
You can feel the energy of Dodo A fading out!
    You killed Dodo A!

And now, in this very time, your character recognizes Dodo B and instantly targets him, as you can order your character to attack him without mistaking targeting another enemy or N/PC.

This option will be enabled/disabled by clicking a button in the options, or simply by the command:

    /autotarget (/auta) [on/off]

Maybe this could be a little issue for the healers, as when an enemy gets KO'd they'll target the next one in the group cycle.
To fix this, I'd make the auto-targeting possible only if before the enemy dies, you have targeted it.
This will also solve a problem with players in the party who wanted to kill that target of the monsters group, but it might have died before landing a hit, so the player can instantly attack the next mob of the group.

    Ideas? Suggestions?

    See ya!

Oh, and Dodo B ceased to live.

i posted a idea where this could easily be done
    http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...-Taget-Lock-on

with a simple double click to the left or right you could switch the target.

That looks nice Rand! Actually, switching targets with the gamepad while in lock on is a no-no, and that would really fix that problem =)

Anyway, it would be nice switching targets in a group when a monster of that group gets KO'd, so you'll have your next target set instantly without any "Oh no! I targeted the wrong monster!" issue or whatever.

I could swear it already worked like that to some extent ?.My biggest problem is the target stays on the dead mob for a bit before it changes to the new red mob.

The funny thing is SE had this in the game and they took it out. Yes thats right it was allready in the game. Then they took it out. 9 times out of 10 it didn't work right, but it was in the game.

Edit: the reason it stayed on the dead mob was because their are spells that take MP after a mob dies.

I think that if they manage to fix that, it would be great and really convenient!

Also, another idea could be like in FFXI, selecting the next enemy of the group that the PC has in its line of sight. That could be nice too and a little more realistic (less "BA-ZAAAAAM!!! You dead! NINJA! You too!" and more "Ok, I have to kill it. Alrite! Now i have to... oh Jesus Christ, where the f**k did it go... Oh, behind me. DIE!").

easy fix, whilst locked on, you're actually locked on to the group, tap the auto run button to switch 'group' target without breaking your lock.

makes sense to me from a controller user perspective.

What about left and right buttons?

Anyway, the main issue here is that when you defeat a monster in a group, you most likely lose track of the next monster (nearer from you) of the group. This can be solved by triggering th event that changes the target when the monster is KO.

The left and right buttons (assuming you refer to the D-pad) during combat are reserved for navigating the combat UI. If you mean Rb and Lb or R1 and L1, then L1/Lb is the auto run button, and R1/Rb is the active/passive toggle buttons.

(this refers to a preset control scheme and not a custom setup)

The triggers/R2-L2 are the macro toggles, and therefore are already in use.
