I honestly don't understand why voice chat isn't built in to multiplayer games nowadays.
NO NO NO and NO... ppl is way too dependant on voice chat to do the slightest shit in game when is not needed at all -.-

Like it or not dude most endgame shells require it, especially for raids for instanced raids

<<<this, agree with warlock on something lol. there is zero need for them. i came from 5years of ffxi and we didn't need it for 64man stuff, we sure as heck not "need" it for any other mmo that has gotten easier and dumber to play since then. i'm glad the devs agree not to add it, there is tons of languages of players and now ps3'ers to add so i doubt this games enforcers of vent will win in this game. you say get on vent, i say theres another linkshell that will be better without it being used.
all in all i think it will be for smaller linkshells to use on a personal level not for any large scale events for ffxiv. but that is just my opinion. if you need people to explain the event over and over to you then you probably not gonna be in any shell i want to be in either way. if you can't do a few mins and watch a video or something, then to bad. if too lazy to type, tough shits. not waisting hours on a headset to save 20mins of typing or macro making. but meh some mmo's it's just impossible to play without vent cause they insist on it, but those are usually mmo's that are just NA servers ..i'll be happy to roll with other countries and ps3'ers just for this matter.

Here is your problem.
Go raid in any modern MMO and tell me if you can succeed without vocal chat. Yeah right you can't.
I played XI as well (pre-75+ era), and the game was made so vocal chat was far from being a necessity. Because everything is slow. Hell I could type just fine while fighting on XI. (hi2u 8sec cast on BLM)
Now we will be getting a game that is supposed to be fast paced and even worse, we'll be getting PvP. Being efficient at PvP without vocal chat is not possible.
Antipika.

<3 you and Warlord... I have played FFXI for 9 years and did many endgames without voice chat. It was the most fun MMO I have ever played.<<<this, agree with warlock on something lol. there is zero need for them. i came from 5years of ffxi and we didn't need it for 64man stuff, we sure as heck not "need" it for any other mmo that has gotten easier and dumber to play since then. i'm glad the devs agree not to add it, there is tons of languages of players and now ps3'ers to add so i doubt this games enforcers of vent will win in this game. you say get on vent, i say theres another linkshell that will be better without it being used.

I am not against voice chat, it's their choices I respect that. The problem is that I am not able to speak or hear because I am deaf on my both ears (no joking). I tried to join any endgame shell and it seems I was the only one who types some text. I did let them know if that's okay I am deaf and can't use voice chat before I joined them and they didn't care, however, I found it no fun at all. lol If I can't find any endgame shell that doesn't require voice chat then I guess it will tell me to go back to FFXI which is sad for me. lol I have played many multiplayer games, in my opinion, Square Enix is the most deaf-friendly video game company in the world.

I feel you pain, being deaf in both ears automatically excludes you from voice chat. I think most shells will be understanding of that although as you stated yourself it wasnt much fun for you because you were the only one writing in text. My hope is that when we eventually come together with ps3 players that lack of voice chat does not serve to alienate or segregate the player base. Or serve to discourage ps3 players from playing. I personally have alot of fun playing this game and for it to be successful we will need for the player base to feel as though they are on even ground. For pc players voice chat is a choice, if a shell requires it you can choose to use it or move on and play with another group that doesn't. For ps3 players there is no choice. If you dont have a smart phone or laptop then when faced with a similar situation you will not have the choice to use voice chat. What im asking for is that the choice be there for those players as well, the argument that by implementing it you will make it mandatory is invalid because most endgame shells already have such rules in place.
