What Would You Share With Other Players

I was wondering what would be the best piece of advice you would share with others?

I started playing in the fall and would describe myself as a casual gamer. I'm very friendly and though I am not goal-oriented I do appreciate efficient ways of reaching specific accomplishments. I remember my first day playing FFXI and having a very kind player (who would go on to become one of my dearest friends) advise me to talk to every NPC I could. Knowledge from cut-scenes would be helpful and questing never hurt an eager adventurer.

The first piece of advice I was given in FFXIV was to npc items as inventory was limited and it was unlikely I would acquire anything of "value." I feel cheated due to the fact that what one person may deem worthless may actually be quite valuable or necessary to another. I probably played 1-20 npc'ing everything when I decided to listen to that nagging voice in the back of my head and began hording each and every drop on my retainer just in case. Despite what I may have lost out on from the early npc'ing I am happy to report that over the past few days I've lvl'd BSM, GSM, and WVR to 12-22 now! My materials were readily available; I haven't sunk one gil into crafting (well just the cost of lvl 8 primary tools but I am happy to report that I crafted my very own lvl 18 GSM primary and also my lvl 20 needle when my weaver is high enough to use it!) *toots own horn*

So... what advice looking back do you wish you had available or what would you pass along to others? I'm sure all the multi- lvl 50s have many pearls of wisdom to share and even though the general perception of the forum/community is that players are leaving I think its important to remember there are those of us who started this glorious game late and still are worthy of assistance. (If ya want the player base to grow you gotta share the sandbox with the kindergarteners )

Avoid the official forums if you liked Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy XI or want to actually have a decent conversation with someone above all lol. I would then say to not bother with craftiing classes until you have a DoW or DoM class fairly high so you can farm materials that Botany and Mining won't get for you THEN focus on crafting.

Also I would say to if you could, do grinding in parties and let your leve allowances build up so you can blow through them to build your bank account and supplement your grinding xp when things are slow.

lol. My advice would be to keep everything except foodstuff, and either hoard it for leveling your professions or sell it in the Wards.

Find a Linkshell as soon as possible.

Level CON first if you want the easiest time finding end-game parties. I can gurantee regardless of when you hit max level cap your class/job will always be in demand.

    Have fun? >_>

first of all I have no position to teach people. the following is just my personal thoughts.
    • Save down the mats as much as you can. (as you already know) So much spaces why not save them down.
    • don't follow ppl blindly. Do your homework and study why everyone buy this and add that.
    • Play with your style. There is no right or wrong; have to or don't do in this game. (as long as you don't cheat or hurt other people)

ya above the lv con first comment is good... everyone wanna be hero and do big damages, but less people want to just support others... so...
    • to make gils/ be popular/ successful is to do the things people don't want to do.

woot thx to that <3 tarutaru asked me to do magic damage test on L50-54 monsters. Your[list] is super nice to use

Enjoy leveling with friends while you can, because there's nothing to do once you have your stuff at 50.

things i learned from ffxi ..being it was my first mmo.

know when patches are coming and what is being added and be ready for it and you can make some quick gils and have your own of what ever is being added much faster for yourself.

don't wait to do things that are party play. don't be like i'd do it later when 2000people are shouting for it now and you can do it without even trying. like crafting solo or trying to do old content when you can do the new stuff with out pain right away.

lastly, if your in shells where everyone has done everything that you still need maybe time to find a new one that is at the same speed, with same things being done that you need. we can have more then one in this mmo too, so it's even easier to do, you don't have to drop pearl like in other mmo's.

these are my few tips, they are pretty much things i go by when i'm playing ...if i did them during the first few years of ffxi it would of made life way easier.

The pearl of wisdom I'd personally like to share with players would be, please attempt to make use of the function /SAY more often.
As I feel there's not quite as disheartening than walking through a world of naught but impersonal /shouts and eerie silence. Especially when one is not part of a linkshell.
