I was wondering what would be the best piece of advice you would share with others?
I started playing in the fall and would describe myself as a casual gamer. I'm very friendly and though I am not goal-oriented I do appreciate efficient ways of reaching specific accomplishments. I remember my first day playing FFXI and having a very kind player (who would go on to become one of my dearest friends) advise me to talk to every NPC I could. Knowledge from cut-scenes would be helpful and questing never hurt an eager adventurer.
The first piece of advice I was given in FFXIV was to npc items as inventory was limited and it was unlikely I would acquire anything of "value." I feel cheated due to the fact that what one person may deem worthless may actually be quite valuable or necessary to another. I probably played 1-20 npc'ing everything when I decided to listen to that nagging voice in the back of my head and began hording each and every drop on my retainer just in case. Despite what I may have lost out on from the early npc'ing I am happy to report that over the past few days I've lvl'd BSM, GSM, and WVR to 12-22 now! My materials were readily available; I haven't sunk one gil into crafting (well just the cost of lvl 8 primary tools but I am happy to report that I crafted my very own lvl 18 GSM primary and also my lvl 20 needle when my weaver is high enough to use it!) *toots own horn*
So... what advice looking back do you wish you had available or what would you pass along to others? I'm sure all the multi- lvl 50s have many pearls of wisdom to share and even though the general perception of the forum/community is that players are leaving I think its important to remember there are those of us who started this glorious game late and still are worthy of assistance. (If ya want the player base to grow you gotta share the sandbox with the kindergarteners)
