The level cap increase was far from disastrous. 90% of people stayed for it, when they would have otherwise quit. The most noisy opposition was from the mediocre 75 players who had a slight taste of good gear. People who had a full set of perfect gear were happy for new trinkets to collect.

Well, everyone I knew quit except for about 4 of them. I think you feel the numbers stayed the same because of the rush of bad people who came back seeing that they were now on the "same level" as people who previously were leaps and bounds a head of them. I stayed for 80, then 85, but the game was just going south.

Abyssa was just silly, more retextured zones just like WoTG, barely anything "new" except a few new alien looking mobs. It makes me sick even thinking about it. They sure wanted that extra 30 bucks out of every player bad.

People getting jobs to max level in a few days because of Abyssa... This along with seeing 14 coming out, showing just how dated the game had become, and knowing that sooner or later that perfect gear set you worked for years on will mean nothing sealed the deal.

What I personally loved about the game was gone.

It did without a doubt make 7~9 years of work worthless and ruined the game for people who valued their equipment. I feel SE did it as a last ditch effort to keep people interested in the game still after 14 had come out, not knowing how badly it would fail. Either way, it doesn't matter now.

Anything they do to 14, level cap raising or new gear that is better than darklight won't matter basically because this game is so stupidly easy. Everything will be obtained in a few months by the people who are good and the others will wallow in failure pick up groups because they're "casual" whilst crying on the forums for SE to make it easier.

Any idea of dedication even being relevant in this game, or any MMO for that matter right now, is a joke.

The games population droped by upwards of 150k in a year when abysea was released... so I would say 45% of the people left because of it and never went back, even with XIV failing.

Got any sources to back that up?

Multiple server merges about 6months after abysea released. Almost all the all the serious endgame shells leaving the game in all time zones. Sounds like fairly enough proof for the population crash. The lack of people going back to the game since XIV crashed more proof of peoples resentment of it. Ask most people who played XI that are not still playing it why they will not go back even with a new expansion... that will more often then not be the reason.

People are delusional to think abysea helped XI in anyway. It could of but the devs did it in the worse way possible.... that seems to be a common theme.

Well it was about 12 months after, and if you'd kept on top of it you would have noticed that the player base was declining WAY before Abyssea or the level cap increase was released. (Hence the server mergers in 2010) The hardcore endgame shells that were active, stayed. The people who left had already done so due to lack of content and XIV's release (the people initially disappointed didn't come back even before Abyssea was released).

in my original post I said the majority of hnm ls complained and rage quit. I never said all of it.

New LS formed, and the old one fall because their members left. When the servers merged there was a little bit of a rebound for old hnm ls because people joined and they end up with new focus. it wasn't uncommon on my server If you see somebody boxing multiple toons with relics.
