    Dear veteran FFXI players

HI! I am Alt. I play on woot-eye or it's more commonly known name, Wutai.

What server were you guys on? any fond memories? linkshells? Past loves? Awkward encounters? Tell me +_+

My name was Firelili I played on Kujata and was a part of the linkshell spirits crusade. A lot of those people I crossed over to play WoW with and continue to speak to after 6 or 7 years of knowing one another.

However, my fondest memory was my first trip to Selbina from Windhusrt. My party and I boarded the boat and as soon as it cast off I was the first one on the deck. Everything looked beautiful! There were pugils (not pugilists) and crabs and genetic NPC convos to listen to. After about 5 minutes I saw a sea monk and went to go touch it. I ran in circles around it and decided to inquire as to what this thing was. My party told me it aggroed and to get back down in the deck then suddenly the creature ran downstairs and killed my party, came back up, and went back to floating around. I never understood why it attacked my party (maybe missfire?) but its things like that I will ALWAYS remember.

Played on quetza for 6 years, and ran a lovely dyn shell for 5 of em. Fondest memory, or memory most burned into my brain, is soloing to 15 on thief with no subjob on quads in Palborough mines. To this day I can't walk into those mines without apprehension, even if the entire zone couldn't kill me.

Used to be in a relationship with a girl named Daggy on my old server Pandemonium. Best to forget those horrible times.

I was Numemonja on Hades server and was a member of AscendantSky, one of the oldest HNMLSs of FFXI.

My fondest memories have to be our overall rivalry against our, back then, rival LS, Excellence and our first Vrtra kill.

The Vrtra kill was one of the first serverwide and was at a time when there were still no strategies on how to kill it. The battle was an epic confrontation which lasted a few hours. At 1% health, one of our Garudas hit Vrtra from the back and made it spike flail which resulted in a complete wipe of the alliance, but by some stroke of luck I evaded it. I still remember all the others around me getting thrown past me against the walls of the cave. Everybody thought it was over. Scared and the same time frustrated that the battle was lost because it would start recovering in seconds, I buffed with all I had and charged blindly at the wyrm and Guillotined it head on.

I was expecting to drop dead after that, but instead Vrtra dropped to my feet amidst some epic shouting from my LS mates. That was one of the best feelings I had ingame.

Looking forward to FFXIV giving me more of these kinds of feelings.

Man, I remember when Ascendant Sky was on the Fenrir server before they all migrated over! Were you around then?

I was Sephileon on Fenrir and part of The Light Warriors LS.

Unfortunately my fondest memory was getting revenge on a rival LS for their actions on the HNM scene while rage quitting. I could go into detail but that's not what this thread is about. My server was one big constant drama.

But when things were instanced it was all fun and games. There's a video on Youtube of us taking down the 5x AA fight while it was still hard, before BLM zergs were cool.

And this is why I am a strong supporter of any worthwhile end-game loot being put in an instance and not HNMs. Instance = fun, HNM = drama.

Instanced = Spam fest everyone gets the gear in 2 weeks.

HNM = Random Drop rates + Competition = Gear is rare and only the l33t get it.

    Not if it's designed properly.

I believe an instance should be so hard that only the best LS on the server will be farming it in the first few months of it being added and even that best LS will take weeks to beat it. If you don't get the strategy perfect then you don't reach the end and don't get the good loot. I'm talking Dynamis Xarcabard difficulty when it was first added, getting that loot off the Dynamis Lord. Far harder than zerging some HNM.

But we're going off topic and there's a couple of threads already on HNM vs instance.

Can't say I remember you lol. I only really remember the major players on the HNM scene and my rage quit was in 2005.

Unfortunately, no, I was originally on Midgardsormr. I always followed AscendantSky because they were the top LS around at the time and it was always my ambition to join them one day, so when I heard they were migrating to Hades I took a gamble and followed them.

Most of the LS started FFXIV on Wutai at launch, but 90% of the LS has quit since then. We are only a few left playing and we are sticking together, but hopefully more will come back when the game gets better.

Wow lol I'm surprised you saw them that way from the outside back then. I can't comment on them in Hades (maybe they became good) but they weren't the top LS when they were on Fenrir... not even one of the top EN LSs. They were just loud. But I don't really want to go into detail why no one except them considered them the best. /tell me in-game if you wanna chat about it. :P
