Fan Service vs Originality

Perfect example where a few things were brought over, but not all.

One thing I didn't mention was steller graphics. That's something the FF series has been known for, and was arguably lacking from IX. Materia was also lacking from IX. Yeah it was a bit of a fan service title, but I don't think it went far enough. Personally, it was my least favorite of the series. The one thing it really had going for it was Tetra Master.

It took more from VI and lower than the recent FF's. It was fanservice, but for the earlier titles (and a great game at that) It did take some very loose references from VII and VIII (Ending credits, and weapon shop dialogue) but there was a metric fuckton taken from the older titles.

That's a fair arguement, but you also have to consider that there is quite a bit of the current fanbase that never played those earlier games, or that came on board after the launch of VII. For those people, IX was not a fan service game. So I'd say that those fans could use a fan service title of thier own.

I agree. XIV being a fanservice title excites me greatly.
