WoW had 4 million in 2005. Although it's not fair to compare the two, since WoW's release really overshadowed FFXI for the most part, 500000 in its heyday is nothing to really praise it for.

What game, outside of FFXIV has "failed"? It's like people who keep saying that "This game is a wow-killer", and when that's not the case somehow the game has "failed". Like it or not, WoW sets the industry standard, and many companies profit from using that design as a template. Most games that do so are successful in their own right and have a loyal player-base.

My personal Problem with the "WoW-Clone" mentality, is that developers aren't adding anything new or expanding on what Blizzard has already done. It seems that Yoshi has hinted at doing just that, so I'm being optimistic.

Don't get me wrong, I loved FFXI, but I've got a job now, and I like leaving my house in my free time, should I feel compelled to do so. I'll be damned if I want to spend a night in to play FF and then have it go to shit because my lolMRD can't get a group because nobody likes MRD.
