I don't know the details, but I believe he was one of the people that bought a copy at release, or shortly thereafter. Hell, he mighta even pre-ordered. I also think, he stopped playing after a few days, due to "faults" with the game.

But, with less than 50k people playing the game, now. I think SE is gonna be stocking shelves with new "boxes", and hoping peoplel spend their money buying the game.

They are, but anyone who bought the game already doesn't have to buy it again.

Let's hope he care about us and dont make this into a 100% wow-clone you can copy from other game but at least come up with good idea that make the game diff and fun.

So i'm guessing they really want to bring final fantasy fan but never play the online version and also other players to try something diff away from wow-clone.

I just think they need to do more to make it diff switching jobs and CS/Storyline is a great start but hope they bring more then just that.
Not being an ass but please show me proof of this i can't find it anywhere about the hole 5 years thing.

Why do we keep coming back to this?

FFXI is a 10 year old game; the genre has evolved. The sooner we can all come to this conclusion, the better off we'll all be. You'll never see many of the conventions that we had in XI because it's not conducive to a good business strategy. SE wants this game to have mass-appeal; something that FFXI NEVER had. In its peak, XI had MAYBE 500,000 simultaneous active subscriptions. After all, it was such a niche game.

Developing another game, specifically for the small minority who still have a raging hard-on for XI is essentially suicide for SE's business. You may attract tons of former XI subscribers, but you'll never get a larger piece of the market if your game is too much more obscure from what else is on the market.

tl;dr- 2012 nostalgia goggles opted out of money-printing feature.

500,000 in 2004-2005 was not niche.

how do they know that the new players don't want that if it's been 10years since they tried to make something like that? obviously they are trying there hardest to not make them like that and every mmo has failed. when they finally say lets just try something from the good ol days they might finally hit a home run. even those who complain they don't' want it like you might find they love the game.

also price of our monthly has been about the same for well over 10years too. maybe the cost of making mmo's is getting to expensive for them to give everyone what they want. maybe it's just time to raise our monthly and give us more content? i dunno just a thought lol. i'd pay 25bucks for a mmo that is catered to me and my play styles like old ffxi ...happily.

You do understand that we're all spending money on this. We all have our personal views on how this thing should go. Just because some of our opinions have a melancholy spin on the situation, it doesn't mean we write these things to anger the people hyped for it.

We're concerned. We're apprehensive for the games future. A lot of what's been revealed, what we've seen, has not instilled a strong sense of confidence, because it's features we don't find entertaining or interesting. It's not some conspiracy to bring down the hype. It's distress. And from me, personally, I think they're rushing the game out before important features coming to 2.0 are complete.

I'd like to believe the content being added at release would be strong enough to keep the interest of new players till the meat is added, but considering the track record of people completing patches within a matter of days, I'm not exactly hopeful.

If you don't like where it's going... the why are you wasting your money on it? Would you bang your head against a brick wall, knowing that it will not fall before you?

WoW had 4 million in 2005. Although it's not fair to compare the two, since WoW's release really overshadowed FFXI for the most part, 500000 in its heyday is nothing to really praise it for.

What game, outside of FFXIV has "failed"? It's like people who keep saying that "This game is a wow-killer", and when that's not the case somehow the game has "failed". Like it or not, WoW sets the industry standard, and many companies profit from using that design as a template. Most games that do so are successful in their own right and have a loyal player-base.

My personal Problem with the "WoW-Clone" mentality, is that developers aren't adding anything new or expanding on what Blizzard has already done. It seems that Yoshi has hinted at doing just that, so I'm being optimistic.

Don't get me wrong, I loved FFXI, but I've got a job now, and I like leaving my house in my free time, should I feel compelled to do so. I'll be damned if I want to spend a night in to play FF and then have it go to shit because my lolMRD can't get a group because nobody likes MRD.
