This is what made FFXI an epic mmo; every FFXI player will be able to remember and tell a good memory about the game, Valkurn dunes is something that brings a smile in most of us who played the game and most of us will have a memory or a story to tell about it... This is something that doesnt happen anymore in the MMOs and thats bc you can be done with an area in a matter of an hour... No matter how good the graphics are or how pretty the waterfall is if it doesnt have a quest mark on it they wont even see it...

History repeats itself all the time and I think its time for it to start all over... all this companies looking for the new thing to do and looking for the most innovative mmo in the marked that will steal wows community are failing and collapsing and the reason why its bc they delivering the same crap with a different smell... and even do it smells different when you look at it end up been the same crap.
I think SE has their answer too success in their past, in its history... not in wows history or any other new-gen MMO...
I think its better to have a stable community of 750k-1mill for 6-7+ years then 3-4 million for 2 months...
SE please stop trying to attract the unfriendly and game sucking community of WOW and the game jumpers... Building a stable community its the key to success and if not go look at your past... and help us kill Absolute virtue again ... Bring back the old community and watch how we will make the unfriendly and game suckers become part of the good community and stay in it for years...
I personally take FFXIV and SE's vision as a successful MMO as kick in the balls to all the FFXI players... hardcore and casuals that spent so much time, money and loyalty on the game...

PS: Please I dnt want to hear the "go play FFXI then" bc FFXI is not FFXI anymore...
and what ARR is showing is all the opposite of what a friendly and respectful community needs...
You want a player base of 750k+ ? Not gonna happen.

Most of the people who bought this game on release, left and ain't coming back. I'll bet the current player base is < 75k.

Even if 2.0 turns out to be great, I doubt the player base will pass 250k.

P.S. Here's some "history" for ya

    FFXIB was realeased too soon
Lots of people said it was bad
Lots of reviewers said it was bad
Beta testers said it was bad
Se said FU we do thing our way our EGO surpasses all others

I dont know about you, but my memories of valkrum dunes are far from being good. It was a pain in the butt. Hair ripping. I think every FFXI player has equally good and bad momories. Same as i do now in FFXIV. Give ARR a chance before jumping to those conclusions.

So SE somehow have the power to conjure up communities out of thin air ? You are correct in saying that the current community will be shaping the new, but before you can have communities, you need a pool of players to start with. Large enough to account those who wont stay. Now you're just putting the cart before the horse.

SE does not make communities. Thats what we players do. SE can only help and support their creation and evolution.

Could you expand on that ? After reading it a couple times, it still feels like a baseless complaint. Every sentence from your post seems disconected from any main idea or constructive suggestion.

I can tell you right now "slow leveling" didn't make FFXI an 'epic mmo.'

Leveling speed has very little to do with how epic an MMO is. It's the content that makes an mmo epic, not the total time it takes to reach the highest level. In FFXI, reaching max level was just the beginning there was so much stuff to do.

FFXI was epic because the size of the game was epic, the storylines were fun, the quests were fun, the events were fun, Combat was fun, the game was balanced, etc.

Because of the limited amount of space available on the internet? Oh wait...

I've never understood complaining about thread posts, its very easy to glance over a post to see if its something you are interested in. If it isn't, skip it. Simple.

But that would mean being forced to post in a thread made by Rokien.

    Here's a comment by a former player:

"I payed 70 bucks for this crap the first time around, I won't touch it unless I don't have to pay another up-front fee and I get at least a free week.
I remember my second day playing, a quest sent me on some pointless run though the map in a maze like canyon with mobs so high a level and so weirdly spaced that the quest was impossible.
    Oh and the economy lol...

sigh... I will be checking my e-mail for an invite from SE. If I don't get one y'all have a great time!"

I bet there are a lot of people out there that feel the same.

Anyone mention to this person that you DON't have to buy the game again and there is a new free trial period, exactly as he is demanding?
