I heard somewhere awhile back that the ferry sequence will be changed to be similar to the XIV 1.0 airship sequence. Please don't do this Square-Enix. Please. Shorten the ride time if you want but do not remove the instanced ride sequences altogether. Take a page from FFXI's book. The Ferry and Airship ride sequences were AWESOME. Those are some of the elements that gave you a unique product compared to other publishers. At least, give players an option. If those hardcore MMO players hate the idea of waiting 5 minutes for a ride to be over, give them an instant ride. For those of us that enjoyed the immersive, realistic travel in FFXI, leave it there.

I remember a rep post long ago saying they planned on making it optional whether you could view the complete airship ride or not in 2.0, but I guess with the ferry changing too that might be going out of the window. If they're going forward with this change, at the very least create a ferry route just for fishers for some diversity.
