It's the MMO genre. Look at every FPS, looks at every fighting game. They play similar because that's how that genre is played. WoW wasn't the first MMO to have these elements. It's just what MMOs are. The ignorance is palpable in this thread. Christ.
And guess what, I don't play those games that don't try something different, I like originality, I get that you have to have some core things with each game, but why do the same thing that EVERYONE does. Seriously, quest grinding, mob grinding, instances(I don't know one mmo without an instance). Raise the bar a little bit ya? That's all I'm asking for.

Different isn't always a good thing. Every game as something that separates them from the rest, but the core things that make up a MMO, (Basic Core structure) is more of a Necessity. Storyline/Content/Music etc those things are the topics that "Should" be different. If they aren't different "then" I can say "wow this is a clone of X MMO".

I just feel like people misinterpret the term "clone". Somethings need to be "the same" or else it can fail miserably. If you try to invent something, you have to make sure it 100% works on the playing field it can't be a decimal off, or else you could lose millions of dollars on a possible failure.

What makes this statement so stupid is that you can meet new people with content finder randomly as you would roaming thru the world, quest does this well, for some reason you seem hell bent on the only way you can meet new people is if you are:

1: Grab people for an exp party and then standing there killing the same mobs for hours, that does not fly cause you can meet plenty of new people with content finder and if you have fun with them you can friend them like normal.

2: You keep talking about world exploration but ARR gives a big reason to explore cause all the maps are foggy and quest will help you travel across the world. Sure quest wont help you fill out all of the maps but thats when you step in and do the rest your self.

Like someone said in this thread already FFXIV:ARR will be more FF like than 11 and 1.0 for a lot of reasons, but the main one for me is exploring a dungeon with friends and getting to the end to beat the final boss, and getting lots of exp and having fun while i do it.

All the suppose die heart FF fans make me laugh when they say this. FF has been one of the few games that hardly ever changes much but they just do small tweaks the combat system and then they pop out a new story. I'll tell you how to beat every FF up to 10 Attack command > are you hurt if so use Cure. that's all this series has been and has never really changed and its the reason its suffering right now cause all the fans are stuck in the past, FF 13 battle system was a breath of fresh air to me but could have been executed better with a none auto battle command.

It's a shame I have to thrust myself into instanced content to meet new people, good luck when those friends you meet cross server want to do something that isn't in a instance you can invite them to.

It's a shame you have thrust your self in tot he world walking aimlessly to find people. Finding people thru content finder or meeting them during a quest you may be doing in the OPEN WORLD or finding them thru a search list is all the same. So sick of people acting every friend they ever made in a mmo was them walking thru a area randomly, if you meet that many people that way, at some point you was looking for someone to friend not randomly finding them.

One of the biggest fears I have about ARR is the quest system. I swear I don't know how much I will be able to take doing Kill XX/Collect XX quests for xp. It's one of the major reasons I don't play a lot of MMOs.

Everyone I befriended on an MMO was mostly just randomly meeting them in an odd place and helping each other out, later we party and make more friends and so on and so forth.

It's stupid that I again have to wait for a thing to pop up and say HEY YOU GOT A PARTY HEAD TO THE DUNGEON NOW~ Lets not forget, some classes will have to wait for hours to get a party, because LOL who wants something that doesn't work well in the dungeon?
Meet people that I will never again play with, or let alone gives them an excuse to be a dick.

Also, it's not exploration when someone is holding my hand saying, "hey, over here! Ok, now go this way, ok ok, now, this is tough, you have to get through these monsters that aggro, WATCH OUT! Phew that was close!" That's not exploration that's me being the games dummy. OoOOOoOOO uncover a map! Why can't I just go buy a map that someone made already? I get why they did this soo it's a false beliefe that you are going off the beaten path, but it's just another; "hey complete this area 100% move to the next! Oh, and don't come back!"

Seriously? You call that fun? I might as well watch the game play itself.

It's the same thing as Kill X Y Levels then go to Z camp and do it all over again. Its 95% the same thing. Kill 10 Dodos Randomly or killing 10 Dodos for a Quest.. there is no difference. @.@

There is, you don't have a feeling of, OMGS HAVE TO COMPLETE THE MAP!

It's more relaxing, also you don't have to do all the stupid leg work that you do on quests.

Relaxing? I like games "Engaging" You know that's just me though. I like things to do, to keep me busy, that's on reason why I play Aion, because I know somewhere on the map I have something to do.
