You can see, most people are tired of how MMOS are being made, and they want them back to how they were(aka FFXI)

"... What made MMOs fun back in the day (and kept me logging in) was the sheer challenge of the content. Quests are fine to me, but do we really need a HUGE question mark? Glowing trails and arrows pointing you EXACTLY where you need to go? All that does is focus the gamer to consume the content as soon as possible. And we all know how much fun that is. Questing alone doesn't make me want to logon everyday. Its the complete experience."

I'm also not saying be stuck in the past, but add new things, be creative try something new that another game hasen't but keep that whole MMO WORLD feel. To me that's adventure, companionship, not, "go here, go there, go here" That's not any types of fun, that's just a good time killer.

    Edit:

    From SOE:
"I have to be honest with you. We have completely blown up the design of EverQuest Next. For the last year and a half we have been working on something we are not ready to show. Why did we blow up the design? The design was evolutionary. It was EverQuest III. It was something that was slightly better than what had come before it. It was slightly better.

What we are building is something that we will be very proud to call EverQuest. It will be the largest sandbox-style MMO ever designed. The same exciting content delivered in a new way. Something you've never seen before. The MMO world has never seen before. We didn't want more kill 10 rats quests. We didn't want more of the same. If you look at the MMOs out there, they're delivering the same content over and over again. So are we. We need to change that. When we released EverQuest, we changed the world. We want to do that again with a different type of game."
i totally agree with you the way of how they showing quests now are taking your hands and showing you step by step and that really sux of a MMO i want alittle more challenge, i believe if they take off that step by step the game will be better. i think taking off the step that show you the map where to go and leave the mark on top of the mob or the object alone and when you accept the quest tell you around which area you can find the quest it will be better then telling right away where you have to go, MMO is all about adventure

I don't see it as "walking you hand" Unless you want FFXI Quest style where you have barely info on quest w/o the internet you probably wouldn't get it done. There needs to be a "little bit" of hand holding because if their isn't, it be very difficult on doing "any" quest in general.

thats what im not saying look the video, when they doing a quest u look the map and it show you where to go sooo easy thats holding your hands and talking you to the place. i dont want that to show. when you accept the quest they should tell you like the place where the quest most be done and when you getting closer to the place they can have that mark ontop on the mob and object make it a little more fun and make it more adventure

I agree with the OP here I don't care much for point and click, especially when it's always showing me what to do and where to go. I loved XI leveling back in the day. Quest leveling has always turned me off other mmo's. I like quests, please don't get me wrong but I don't want a cookie cutter mmo

Ah, but will facing north-by-northeast at 2:45 a.m. while the moon is a waning crescent result in a 27% increase in your chances to synthesize HQ mythril ingots!? That is real the question! ~Fernehalwes~

Every last single person I have talked to in Alpha says the game is super fun and they love it. So what they did was right and will make the game thrive they can't take another gamble on trying something new and it crash and burn. Everquest is kind of the Father of all MMO's and they know from years and years of experience way more than SE has in the industry of what they need to do to make players enjoy their games.

ARR is the step in the only direction that is guaranteed success and that is what the company needs. So don't whine about it because it is set in motion and this is what you are going to get. If you don't like it don't play the game majority of the people are tired of reading these topics of yours though I admit you seem to have gained a little following of the remaining few forum posters.

Every MMO that comes out claims to be different from all other MMO's its normal marketing bs. Just look at GW2, people actually believed it that time but its just as dull and repetative as all the rest.
All I can say is FFXIV better have a serious old school MMO expansion ready to be released in time for xmas 2014 or they can wave bye-bye to most of their subs, a bit of dlc here and there just does not cut it.
