You don't have to be a Christian to ENJOY Easter, do you? The same goes for Christmas. Hell, I'm an atheist, but every year, I help my family celebrate Christmas and Easter. Why? Many reasons. The main reason is that I don't like to be such a spoiled brat that I want to make others unhappy just because I don't believe what they do. The second reason is that Easter and Christmas were not originally Christian holidays....so why shouldn't I celebrate them? I can just celebrate them in a different way than everyone else. Now...if you don't want to celebrate Easter, you can just...not log in.

First off: Yes, Christmas and Easter are both Christian only holidays designed by Christians. But what they did is place Christmas near the Winter Solstice and Easter near the Spring Equinox to help them convert pagans who had their own holidays at those times. Just wanted to correct you on that fact.

And you're right, you don't have to be Christian to enjoy fluffy bunnies and get Easter candy. I completely acknowledge that fact, and I also "go along with it" in my family as well.

But the point is that many Japanese people have no idea what Easter actually is. The same point can be made about Golden Week (many westerners don't know what it is), but this is a Japanese game. So if they had to choose between them (like they have), I believe the better choice would have been the Japanese one. Especially since it isn't based on a religion. I think it would be nicer to introduce more cultural events to the game than religious events.

But I suppose it doesn't matter at all since there's nothing religious about fluffy bunnies and painted eggs (and it's not like the holidays haven't all been commercialized anyway).

patch 1.17 was initially pushed back to mid-April, but after reexamination we’ve decided instead to divide the content and release it across two patches—1.17 and 1.17a.

A statement like that can mean a couple things:

1) At first they planned to release 1.17 in mid april, now they are splitting and releasing 1.17 right away, and 1.17a later. Basically assuming we will receive content faster this way.

2) They planned to release 1.17 mid april, and now will still do so, except it will come in 2 patches instead of the originally planned single patch.

Since he doesn't give a time frame for the 2 new patches, you cannot really assume they will come quicker. All you have to go on is that is was pushed back, and has now been reconsidered. Could be sooner, could be later. He doesn't really say except that we will have 1.17 before Easter. That's all we can count on and thats a full month away. God I hate ambiguity.

If he had an exact date, I imagine he would have gave it. They could have pushed the patch back altogether and scrapped the event. Then we would be waiting longer.

To tell you the truth I would rather the dev team and Yoshi give me a general date, rather than a specific date. Just in case if something comes up or testing doesn't go as planned, then they don't have to re-plan and disappoint us by delaying a patch by a day or two.

I am grateful tho for all the hard work SE is doing to help get FFXIV back on its feet, even through what that region has gone through in the past month or so.

He said that about 70% of patch 1.17 is going to be released early... that's the majority of it. Basically the only thing we aren't getting is the dungeon. I'm pretty sure that means that we'll be getting battle changes in 1.17 and not 1.17a. Your doomsday BS is unwelcome and unwarranted.

I'm a little bit sad knowing that they scrapped the Sword festival, it was always one of my favorite holiday events, but I'm looking forward to the new PvE content, it's been a long time coming.

So true.... that letter didn't tell us anything new. Only that the patch is split in 2 and that we are getting a useless easter event.

At least he could have told a little bit of what we will see in the patch. Instead he decided to play the secrecy game but it will back fire on him if 1.7 is not up to people's expectations.
