Really dumb question about Sheepskin +1

So, it's happened a few times recently where I was out trying to level a very low level class on the sheep outside of Limsa. I figured this was a good spot for a number of reasons, there are lots of them, they respawn quickly, they're level 1, and I can use the sheepskin to make lanolin, fleece and leather.

Well, much to my dismay, 50% of the time when I tried to go out and level my classes, there was a level 50 slaughtering all of the sheep. Slaughtering them so quickly and relentlessly that I couldn't level. They wouldn't even leave me a small area of sheep with which to level.

They were hunting for sheepskin +1. A couple of them tried to give me the nq sheepskin, when what I really wanted was xp.

Why? Someone please tell this casual player who only has one 50 class and barely adequate gear why you need sheepskin +1 so badly??

The sheep outside limsa aren't exactly the only thing to level on. But as above, if you did a little digging, you'd probably see why they want this stuff.

I am not sure. However, I do know that Sheepskin is crafted into Fleece; which then can be crafted into Woolen yarn. Now...Woolen Yarn is used in A LOT of high level synths. People need +1 Woolen Yarn to make HQ armor; therefore, they need +1 Sheepskin.

Idk how much the +1 skins are selling for on Durandal, but they are probably worth a fair amount gil.

Fleece is used in Woolen Yarn / Cloth. If you want HQ of these items, you pretty much need (a lot of) HQ fleece.

Unfortunately, there are few good places to farm Sheepskins, so you run into this sort of thing. I generally farm mine down south where there's a lighthouse since newbies don't generally go down there.

I'm confused. Did you "only want xp", or did you want to kill sheep for a ton of different reasons as stated in the previous paragraph? If you just want xp, there are a multitude of other places you can kill hoards of low level mobs, that no one else is going to be at.

this is part of the problem with the crafting changes on its yield results.

the hq fleece is used in a higher level weaver synth to make hq woolen yarn and that is used in a bunch of high level synths. the problem is how much hq sheepskin you need to get a batch of hq fleece to turn into quite a few hq woolen yarn.

figure 1 sheepskin will make 3 fleece and it takes 2 fleece along with a karakul fleece to make 1 woolen yarn. most of the higher level mage gear uses woolen yarn so you will have a ton of high level people farming them.

Hmm, so I popped over to my leatherworker and pulled out one of my sheepskin +1.

You can't +1 fleece. You get 6 baskets instead of 3, but not +1 fleece.

Which leaves me even more confused than I was before. ><

It's an older recipe, so you have to use an offhand tool.
