I really liked the description of what made FFXI unique. Never impressed with the combat or UI - but I always loved the "feeling" that is why when I hear the music I get jitters, but I fall asleep when fighting anything other then some bosses. I think WoW had some excelent sounds in places (if you can get over the graphic style) but FFXI was incredibly consistent in giving that feeling of place and scale - and that is rare.
+1 ^_^
SE has recently (interview) said they have changed the cities more then they expected so we can look forward to that (something they didnt plan on doing).
Also I've never seen this screenshot >.>
Awesome!

Nice blog! I always thought the 2nd and 3rd pic were pictures of the labyrinth raid in 2.0; perhaps the 2nd is the entrance and the 3rd is a portion of the dungeon that takes us briefly back outside of it since there are stairs going from the side of the walls, down, then back into the wall? idk. They just look like they're too much in ruin to be Ul'dah....though the look of Ul'dah might have changed entirely for all we know. That's just what I was thinking, anyway.
But yeah...great read though!
The cities really aren't going to change much. None of that art work is from Uldah. You can even see Uldah in the trailer for ARR we know it is identical to how it is now from the outside at least. Those tracks in that art work are for a mine cart not a train.
They said that originally - but recently have said it has changed much more then they expected they were going to. Even Uldah.
I still wouldn't expect a complete new zone but it is fun to run around again to see whats new.
(That crappy pre-alpha trailer that shows Uldah is pre-alpha so perhaps it isnt the best source of Uldah)
I think it is safe to assume these changes will be minor. Uldah is seen in both trailers and only one of those is pre alpha.
Um... Alpha hasn't started yet, we would have heard about it, so yeah all trailers up to now are pre alpha.
Also Sihl'Dah (or what ever it's called)
I'm not sure if ul'dah is changing or not. Not only was it shown in the pre-alpha trailers but it also looked like it had the same graphics from a distance. That leads me to believe it may be changing a bit more based on the way gridania changed quite a bit.
Actually it appears they're making more changes than they said they were originally. Some of the places we have to zone into now are going to become part of the city. You can't do that without making some structural changes.
Those places look awesome ^_^
