Like Arcell and I and others have brought up... All SE has to do is balance out the lockout times and tokens per run ratio alongside appropriate token cost per gear to extend the life of content while preventing content from being spammable.

This kils two birds with one stone:

    1) prevents hardcore players from spamming content and getting all gears one month after new patch, thanks to the lock out timers.

    2) rewards players for hard work, effort and persistence over time by allowing them to purchase the gear via tokens.

You are right when you think that less time will be spent getting gear in that you will have to do less runs on average to get that gear IF you do so by purchasing via tokens. But the time it takes to obtain those tokens might be as long if not longer than it currently takes to get full darklight gear.

EX: Future - Full Dimlight Set: 6 months spent doing 4 runs per week = 16 runs per months = 74 runs
Current - Full Darklight Set: 2 months spent doing 50 runs per week = 200 runs per month = 400 runs (probly exagerated)

This is why I feel if they do strike a balance it will still be in such a manner that we won't stick with one content as we do now since the latest interviews stated that we're not going to be reliant on luck.

Exaggerated but it's basically how Limbus and Einherjar contents were, but the bought gear was just "soso" with a few good pieces at the time. This is how I picture the token system honestly.

This is disappointing. I thought the tokens were going to work like a server-wide DKP system but it seems they're going to be irrelevant. People do content in order to get the best gear and they will never be satisfied with sub par gear. I thought tokens were intended to remove a lot of the RNG and luck from drops.

They really need to re-think this.

Wow... I didn't expect people to be against that idea.

    - Just like the Garuda system (you might get a drop but you at least get tokens to buy something in the long run)
    - There is a cooldown (so you can't raid tokens and drops)
    - Items bought with tokens won't be as good as the real ones

Basically, the only thing that we could be frustrated about is that in no way does it say that you get more tokens based on how well you did the event/run/dungeon. If there were clear objectives earning you an extra token or two in the dungeons which would require time and skill (like killing a tough NM in a room or open all chests), then the "better" players would get more reward tokens for their effort than the ones just completing the run in the same week.

**We can't assume that they will screw up the "alternate token version" of items and the amount of tokens required to buy them as much as we can't say that the drop rate of excellent gears in new dungeons will be acceptable**

Assuming something will get screwed up is just the natural reaction to SE after many years of odd design choices in their games.

If people always assume everything will go wrong, they should just quit playing SE's games. Most of the comments are negative on the token idea even though the idea is better than the actual system where you can do 10 runs a night with no good reward whatsoever.

Thats like telling people to stop playing this game because they don't enjoy anything about it and do not have any sort of fun playing it whatsoever. It just won't happen.

Amazing how they take a simple idea, and turn it into an overly complicated poor idea. Who settles for second best?

Thats kind of the whole point I think. No one will be settling for second best BUT if you are unlucky, you can still get good gear while still maintaining the motivation to continue doing the raids. Just look at all the people that do skirmish and run around with skirmish weapons. They are far from being the best but the content rewards you with the items fairly easily and it gives you motivation to keep going and improve your gear in other content.

(atleast I assume thats why people do skirmish I have only done it like twice for shits and giggles)

I also think that this is what they had in mind. A -30% stats of a Darklight piece is still better than most gears out there and you'd glad to wear it until you get the real one.
