Wow. They must have some insecurity issues if they need to feel powerful in order to have fun. This is one thing that I have watched turned non-FF players off every time I try to show them the game. Their first reaction is always "why would I want to kill a rabbit when I could be killing Sith Lords or slaying giant dragons?". Unfortunately I have no answer for them. Low level grunt work - sure - but after like level 15 we should only see these as harmless little creatures that you can whack in one shot.
In relation to what you were fighting before, yes, I agree. And that's a lot of what was wrong with FFXI, was that lvl 1 mobs and lvl 70 mobs often looked much the same, so there wasn't a clear sense of progression. It wasn't that the crab was small and weak looking, it was the fact that you supposedly progressed a long way and yet it didn't look very different, so it didn't feel any different.
But the fact that anyone can only have fun if they're fighting something awesome looking like a dragon or sith lord is incredibly near sighted.
