If you play only about 3 days a week, then yeah ok maybe it does last a bit. If you play even an hour or two a day rested xp is used, and its not a big difference. So im assuming then you feel that only playing to level every few days with a decent xp bonus is better than once a day with a small one? I think the xp in the latter is a better option. Of course the latter is the better choice, but some people don't have that choice because they don't have enough time in their day. I just don't get your reasoning for wanting it taken out. A small bonus is still a bonus and some people have no interest in gathering and crafting.
