My computer has an integrated ATI Radeon HD 4200. I've perused several forums and found out that it is horrible. I've decided which card I want to purchase, but I was wondering if, and how, I can either remove or bypass an integrated card.

Pretty easy to bypass the integrated card. Just install your new card, hook up the monitor to it, then go into device manager and uninstall your integrated card.
Yeah, integrated cards always suck.
If you need help getting your new card up and running when you get it, just post in this forum and I or someone else will help you out.
Before purchasing a new card, make sure that it will fit in your case, and that you have a PCIe slot on the motherboard (you should). You also need to take into account your power supply wattage.
Take note of your other PC components, such as your CPU.. don't buy an expensive card just to find out that your CPU is bottlenecking your system.
To turn off your integrated card you can do what Jibe recommended, or turn it off in your BIOS. You may find that you need to use the bios to make sure it doesn't try to re-install itself.
