PS3 registraction code and current members question.

Okay, I hate to make useless topics(total lie, I love them), but after looking over the PS3 UI, I've decided that I wanted to buy a completely new copy of FFXIV for the PS3. Why when I could just use the same UI on PC while using a controller? Cause I said so, that's why! Plus I already know the gimmick, buy this new product, get in-game item so yadda yadda collectors edition here I come!

But this brings me to my point, I'll have two copies of the game. I'm just gonna go ahead and assume that if I buy the PS3 version, I can have my PC account accessed from there (also can't wait to see the new start-up menu if there is one).

So what of this extra registration code I'll have. See, my hope is that I can just give it to my friend along with a flash drive containing the client/patch data for FFXIV: ARR and he'll won't have to buy a new disc of the game, and I'm not trapped with a registration code I can't use.

Any thoughts about this, or am I the only one who has this concern?

Well, IF S-E doesn't use some weird system that has you activating the PS3 version using the code, or making the code console-only or something crazy like that, then yeah, you should be able to give it to a friend to use with a PC version.

That's what I hope, unless of course we just warned SE of a nice way to prevent players from sharing.

I thought I heard them mention that even though you have a PC account you will have to register the PS3 version to your account. I believe I read it in the last live letter in the Q&A section.

You will most likely have to register the PS3 version of the game. As mentioned there was mention of having to do so.

But XI also required you to register the game (use the CD key to activate the copy) for PS2 and PC versions for the same account.

You will need to register the PS3 code even if you already have a PC account.

Hmm, this does not bode well for my current situation. As I currently live with family members who play FFXIV and we share a PS3/XBox360/wii. If there was a one copy =one connected account issue, I'd have a problem of who gets to have their account on the PS3.

I'd be interested if they did what the xbox360 did for FFXI, and have our accounts instead of being linked to the purchased game, but to your gamer tag. That way one disc is good for the entire family.

You have to use a registration code from the PS3 version of the game to be able to play your same account on both platforms, so it's probably safe to say each registration code is keyed to a particular platform.

If you want to have separate accounts, each account will only be able to play on that platform unless you get another registration code for the other platform to put on that account.

Hopefully they reconsider this because with FFXI, while you did have to buy the game to play on the ps2 version, you could use an account you already created on PC with it and create another account with the registration code you got from the ps2 version.

So what of this extra registration code I'll have. See, my hope is that I can just give it to my friend along with a flash drive containing the client/patch data for FFXIV: ARR and he'll won't have to buy a new disc of the game, and I'm not trapped with a registration code I can't use.
While I'm assuming they are as stated above, whether you can do this or not will depend on whether registration codes are specifically tied to a certain platform or not. If not, you'd be able to give the code to your friend and they'd be able to play, but you yourself would only be able to play on one platform in that case.

Mmkay, so that probably means I'll be buying about 3 copies of FFXIV for the PS3.
Or link all my family's accounts to the one gamer ID where the PS3 copy is registered to, which would be wonderful for who ever it gets attached to, since you know trophies and what not. But I never cared about that anyway, lol.
