New Processing CHIP for extreme gaming

To all you Gaming-PC builders, tell me what you think about "AMD structure".

Could this be a solution to economize PC design around sophisticated MMOs.

I do like the cost effectiveness but quite honestly..I think we're at that point where unless the developers does something amazing, we're not going to truly notice "the next step" for awhile.

I'll wait until somebody I know builds a machine using one. I haven't been impressed with AMD processors (much less Radeon graphics) for a while now.

This is where we disagree, as I have preferred AMD for the last couple generations. Intel hardware is overpriced for what you get, even though they often do bring out the bleeding edge CPU first. AMD gives you a lot more for the money most of the time. I would only choose intel if money was no object and I wanted the bleedingest of bleeding edge.

The only thing Nvdia truly has going for it is the physics processing tech that it has a monopoly on (and the driving software is programmed not to allow it to run at full power on anything other than Nvidia/intel hardware even though it would work just fine on any hardware)

I'm more concerned with them dying after a few months like I hear happens to most of the non-Intel brands.
Samsung makes great SSDs, just as does intel. Samsung makes all the components in theirs themselves, unlike several other makers. Look around on newegg, you'll see the smallest percentages of 1-eggs on their products compared to any other brand. There are many brands that are really unreliable (which is ironic since solid state in most kinds of products means better reliability/durability), Intel and Samsung are both great most of the time- Intel costs a LOT more though.

That price difference is what drove my choice initially. But around the same time I built that machine, I got a new i5 at work that hauled ass doing fairly simple things compared to my AMD, I reconsidered and built a new gaming rig using an i5 chip. I'm glad I did.

My Phenom II X4 has yet to fail me. Among other things, runs FFXIV like a charm >.>

I'm not doubting that there could have been other issues with my rig hindering performance. Again, this is personal experience, and just one pc compared to another. After fiddling with it for a few months to get better performance with ffxiv, I finally gave in and built a machine that performs much better. But that's why you can't trust anecdotes, test data is a far more accurate indicator. All I'm saying is that my personal experience with AMD has not been good.

Old games will definately run fast enough on the IGP. But since this forum is for FFXIV: No, FFXIV will not run well on that IGP :P
Not sure about ARR though. And sadly AMD didn't learn from the FX. One FPU is still shared between two modules which isn't the best for gaming and benchmarks. The clockrate compensates that though and makes the Quadcores fast enough for any game on highest details for the next few years.
If someone asked me right now what to put in a Gamer-PC I would recommend i5 or PhenomII and a dedicated PCIe GPU.
The software isn't ready for AMDs new architecture.

I built a machine with a Phenom II 965 Black (top of the line AMD at the time), which was totally blown away by the performance of a mid range i5. I personally wouldn't recommend even the best AMD processor for a gaming machine.

I highly doubt you noticed any difference in gaming. Since that isn't possible. No game these days uses more than 30% of an average Quadcore-CPUs cycles. If you switch from AMD CPU+GPU to Intel CPU+nVidia GPU you will notice a difference in some games. That's not because the CPU is much faster but due to some games using PhysX which only works well if a nVidia GPU is present (which is fully intentional).
