Nah just let em walk the plank!
But seriously lol, when i first saw FFXIV i was hoping it was going to be FFXI-2, when i saw the same races in the teaser trailer i thought it was going to be Vana'diel but like waaaay far in the past or something, then i saw that "Project Rapture" video and thought that would be one of the starting cities in FFXIV, but it wasnt which made me kinda sadso if they make this game more similar to FFXI i wouldnt mind :P.
What you mean to say is, all the stuff that is "useful" looks the same right now. There's a lot of useless junk in the game right now that all looks different from each other - now if only there was a reason to wear it...
If only there was another game that had a variety of "useful" gear with different appearances... oh wait, there is! Now they just need to re-release it for higher-quality systems.
☆ space trash ☆

Ask me how long I had to wear the ugly orange shirt for!!!!It was there in my early levels and then it appeared again in my middle levels! Different shirt exact same design. Ohh dear.

Hard to say...
FFXI w/ 8 years of content vs. FFXIV with 6 months of content = FFXI
FFXI w/ 8 years of content vs FFXIV with 8 years of content = FFXIV. (Hands Down.)
~~ To Thine Own Self be True ~~

Ignoring FFXI for options in FFXIV is retarded.
Ignoring WoW for options in FFXIV is retarded.
If they want to do something new thats great, but core "Features" need to be carried over.
Features are not gameplay, like party searching from ffxi is a feature, a well done one and should have been carried over. Oh wait, it WAS carried over, now the argument is different. The implementation of the feature (Party searching) is so poor the feature isn't used. That doesn't mean people wouldn't use it. Everyone used this in XI, tons of people use it in wow for instances too.
XIV needs to overhaul the party search feature because people want it, but not how it was currently designed, this is why no one uses it.
Auto walk from Atlantica is a feature, and should have been carried over.
PVP battlegrounds from WoW is NOT a feature, Ballista from FFXI is NOT a feature.
PvP "IS" a feature. That is carried between almost all MMO's in some form.
Do you see people complain because FFXI had PvP its just like WoW? No, because although a feature remains the same, the actual implementation of it is so different you don't think of it as a copy cloned thing etc.
NO, cause again, it, is, a, feature.
When someone has been referencing something from FFXI it has been a feature. Not carrying over "features" is ignoring what they learned from the history of another game, back peddling.
I don't see anyone saying I wish my sword swung this way, or I want Slug Shot on archer yada yada, those are gameplay mechanics not features.
Everyone saying this is not FFXI is failing to see this point. NO ONE wants XIV to be XI, they want the features to be carried over from XI and any other MMO that had useful TOOLS. They have nothing to do with the core game play.
Try to open your eyes a little more to see this.
The same thing is going on with Square-Enix's (publisher only) other MMO Wakfu, they f'd up and didn't bother to include an AH and people are going ape-shi* about it. Among other things. And the devs refuse to respond to it so people are trying to refer to FFXIV in hoping the devs learn from the history of MMO's this decade and the previous.
Yet every time someone mentions XIV its the "This isn't XIV or XI" response.
That response is only appropriate when it pertains to a gameplay mechanic, 95% of the time its used it is used incorrectly.
Transferring a feature from one game to another is in no way just recreating one game into another.
If the copied content, such as if people demanded Dynamis in XIV from XI, then yes, that would be the time to say this is not XI. Dynamis was not a feature and should remain specific to XI. Large scale Linkshell PvE battles however are a feature that should be carried over in XIV in a different form.
Auto-attacking is a feature that directly impacts gameplay mechanics though, this one is tricky, however given that most other MMO's also have auto attack and are not deemed copies of another game (well, some), this is leaning more towards an acceptable carry over feature.
Some times there are people in that why can't parties be like this, or monsters like that cause things are too easy yada yada, they should only have 6 man parties with tough monsters. Well that is a perfect example of a time to use that statement above.
Not a feature.
Sorry just so sick of people saying this is not XI if it was only referencing a feature.
It could have been any MMO out there.
One day if XIV implements level sync, are you going to post topics that claim them to just be copying XI again?
If other MMO's used level sync as a feature, would your answer be different?
If the answer to the first question is yes, then you are someone who incorrectly uses the statement "This is not XI"
Understand yes? kk
I am all for every single feature from FFXI being implemented into FFXIV, but I don't want to play a clone.
Just as most people in here said, new areas, new lore, new everything, but SAME features as xi. And this game would be golden.
I like the idea of FFXI-2, but I always thought that FFXI was too time consuming to get much done within a reasonable time. Don't get me wrong I want a challenging game, but not one where it takes 30 minutes to an hour to get a solid party and then staying in party for a few hours if your lucky to get a single level. Not to mention painfully long quests to get a map as a reward. I think they should make it a less time consuming. That's what I like about FFXIV is that I can get on and actually get several things accomplished in the same time it took me on 11 to get a party and get that one level.
