For me, Signed gear SHOULD be around, however there should be a way to remove the name aswell, and that certain way cant be easy either, if someone named :Xeak Ballox" for example, i dont think ide want to remove that persons name, or i wouldent care about it that much, but when u get gear with someones name like "fefefe fefefefefe" u WANT to remove it asap lol (that name Actually exists on masamune)

so yeah imo it should be both ways, have Signed gear ingame, and a way to remove the name without having to sell the item. like a loong quest lol
