Spiritbond tips and tricks

Me and my chumlies are having a little trouble with the ol' spiritbond lately.
I suppose we're rookies as our first and only attempt to spiritbond effectively was with a group of playful wolves in Natalan. All was good until a party with more manpower showed up and pushed us out due to there only being 5 of us at the time.

I also found out yesterday that the Gambler's crown is DoH only! I was so disappointed
I've been trying to stack spiritbond + gear to make my the experience fly by without a thought.

Are there Are there any tips and tricks out there to spiritbond effectively?

So far we've thought of using the level 50 imperials and the room before the boss in Zahar'ak as there's an incredible amount of level 52s back there.

The amout of mobs works against us however as we are trying to spiritbond our relic weapons which requires one person outside of the party to claim whilst those inside of the party kill; Zahar'ak is just an flurry of lances and staves, we can't organise that!

Our lovely little Bard seems to have taken up residence at Twinleaf as well, to take advantage of the constant Spriggan spawn as the Spriggans stay at range and have minimal hit points for a level 50.

I've become quite fond of the Diremites past the Bard AF quest NPC for solo Paladin-ing.

We've also been having a player outside of the party (the spiritbonder) run out, agro the mobs and then use an ability to claim, then have the party decimate whatever turns purple for them - or in the case of BLM, a player runs out, agros mobs and they sleepga what's pulled back for a claim.
