Part Two: (Two parts as they are slightly unrelated)

This is more of a pet peeve, but something I'm not sure bothers everyone.

I really miss creative stat morphs and flavor texts.

When items have something that "only" that item carries it makes it unique beyond just having some kind of stat pattern. Like right now a good item is an item with big stat numbers. But it would be nice to have items with "chance to silence on hit", "double attacks", "each critical hit applies 1% haste, up to 10 stacks".

I know this barges into the territory of most other MMO's. But its something I like as without it, items are rather bland patterns. This is not to say I like large stat allocation numbers. I don't, I really would be disappointed if in a year we are seeing numbers in the thousands for stats.

FFXI did this a little actually in the way of extra effects. Even some items had hidden effects.

I also realize that AF gear and relics have special modifiers, but I believe there are not enough - too many items are still just stat patterns. Also some of the modifiers are fairly lame.

Most (not all) of FFXIV feel quite meh when it comes to items. "Awesome and terrible blade of higher then average stat allocation".

When a weapon says its cursed and drains the blood of its victims, I like knowing it really does that.
    Cursed Katana
Each normal hit drains 1% health from player*
Each Critical restores 5% of the health of the player
*Normally you dont put negatives in an item like that :P, just put it in as an example

Things like this make that item unique beyond whatever stats it has.

Also want to add the idea isnt too far fetched as in FFIX you learned abilities from gear and weapons.
