Man, if only Yoshi's letters were that long...

don't agree with the gross rp kissing/hugging stuff but the rest is pretty solid and put together well. devs should give it some consideration.
Really good read, i agree with the op in several points, lets wait and see how this game turns out in 2.0 hopefully will be bad ass
You do know that niche games with small player bases can still be extremely profitable? Otherwise MMOs wouldn't have existed pre-WoW.LoL
You do know that it costs money to run the servers ?
You do know that some quests require parties of people on or past the same quest, online at the same time ?
You do know that SE is a business, who's primary goal is to make money ?
Oh wait, nm you're a fanboi, have fun playing your unique game while it lasts
You do know that the larger the player base, the more servers? If WoW has 20x more subscribers than some other game, they'll also have 20x more realms. The amount of players on each server doesn't have to be any different. The populations on WoW vary by quite a bit but thats because they don't place any limitations.
You do know that you probably don't own a stake in SE, and therefore should be more concerned about your enjoyment of your own game experience and not their balance sheet?
Oh wait, nm you're a WoW fanboi who would prefer we have a massive player base where more than half the players are extremely casual, and log in for 30 mins a week. XI had the strongest community of any game I've ever played because it was a niche game with loyal players who genuinely cared about the game's direction, and stayed with it for years.

Average gamers don't play a video game for 12 to 48 hours straight. I stopped reading there... Still, you brought up good points, but I don't want this game to be like WoW. WoW is an MMO, not an MMORPG, as it was said. It tries to be like one, but it's not. Plus it's too cartoony.

I read all of this thread in 1 sitting and while the OP was well thought out and such alot of the complaints have and will be addressed in 2.0. The stuff that hasn't or won't be addressed is personal preferences that I personally would not care to see added, some I wouldn't be against at all.
I do have to agree with those who said after reading most of your topic they checked the date of creation cause it does sound like a necro-bumped thread from way back in the day prior to the 2.0 announcement or soon after.
I have been around since 1.0 Alpha and what they need is not "Average Gamers" in their alpha/beta they need to actually pay attention to their testers and make adjustments and changes to the issues and such pointed out by these testers they let in. This is one of the biggest mistakes made during 1.0 Alpha/Beta. ALL of our complaints fell on deaf ears and we were pretty much just playing a demo of the game to come since nothing we reported/suggested/griped about was paid any mind and they released the game anyway with little to no changes for the better.
This pattern continued after launch for awhile until Yoshi-P took over which is when the game started seeing a real improvement. Not only does he listen to us but he actually acknowledges our suggestions and if its not something ridiculous he will add it in as soon as he can.
I don't believe this game will be a WoW-killer nor a WoW-clone but I do think with time and more updates this game can be just as successful maybe even more-so then FFXI which despite the popular opinion on these forums is still going strong after 10 years of service.

Embarrassing read, to say the least. Complaints over issues that are old as fuck, many already fixed months ago. Don't know how so many people thought the OP was well versed and concise. It sounded like a teenager with absolutely no broad gaming experience or the minimal required critical thinking, spewing infantile suggestions on complex issues as if being a game designer only required brainstorming. It might seem as if I'm saying what I am because I disagree with most everything the OP has said (which was mostly personal opinion), apart from the obvious fixes. I am genuinely surprised, however, with how well received his topic was, given how poorly thought out it was compared to other topics that have been bashed on from beginning to end on these Forums. It seems clear the community here is much more receptive to any kind of criticism on the current game (as irrelevant as it may be) than criticism on changes that have been made for the future version.
I would still like to address a few things.
Popular games are not good games because they are popular games. Their popularity means just that: they are popular. This isn't hard to comprehend, yet it is frequently brought up when people want to justify a game taking the direction of a popular game. WoW caters for a lot of people. However, if I wanted to, I could argue that it caters for the mediocre, which is the majority of any given community. That's the bulk of WoW players. Ten Million subscribers. If you think that proves Blizzard is doing something right, then specify exactly what they are doing right. And that is making money. You cannot judge quality based on numbers sold. And this isn't a forum about how S-E should proceed to make more money.
One thing that baffles me is why do you stick around at all? There are dozens of games out there to satisfy your every desire. This game, as it is and was conceptualized, is far away from your ideal.
A person who is incapable of enjoying a well written story if it doesn't feature voice acting, calls people "noobs" for preferring a different pace of gameplay and for not enjoying PvP, whose definition of fun is "kicking other people's butts", believes he holds the key to improve upon "our game" (which I'm assuming refers to Final Fantasy fans), can not be taken seriously on these forums. I shiver to the mere thought of someone like you having any influence on the direction of this "sacred" game, of S-E pandering to people like yourself.
No, OP, it is you who do not understand why this game failed, and it certainly shouldn't be you giving ideas as to how it might succeed.

Actually yes, voice acting ftw!
Mediocre? yeah okay 2012 and we're playing a game that plays like it's 10yr old cousin.. I LAWL at you, kind sir!
