Luminary Tools ... are not any good :|

Lets compare:

Getting Luminary tool over double melding a high tool.

1- The time require to get one.
2- The gills needed to finish one.
3- Effort for looking to the recipe list.


I already got 2 and third on the way .. and got shocked that double melded are almost the same.

Synthesis is overall easier than gathering, that's not only the tool part

I really hope they can be "upgraded" when the level cap raises because I agree, they're not very good.

They're just achievement rewards, not meant to be the best things ever..no upgrade necessary honestly. If you look at the requirements of synthesis for one it's literally designed in the way you'll get it shortly after hitting 50 if you don't strictly level on 10+ recipes over your current level.

Really, only the people who were long capped by their introduction had to grind for it but you can do every tool cheaply, even using the previous items you made for the next range. Gathering classes only does one thing: Gather, so of course it's a different set of requirements :|

I imagine it's like a milestone, with a better tool to be obtained from later achievements (with cap increase and new achievements.) I figure the same thing will happen with AF and the paragon crown too.

Only time will tell.

As has been said, crafters have it easy, its the gathering tools that are really time consuming.

And as others have said they are designed as trophy items, to show off, "look at ma shiny" however they are usable for example if someone cannot be bothered to double meld luminary is still acceptable.
