Of course its a sign of things to come, I take it you didnt play XIHopefully this isn't a sign of things to come. The constant feedback from the item team that the abysmal drop rates throughout the game are "a-ok" is the single most worrisome thing heading into ARR. I'm fairly certain the only people who would continue playing ARR if everything still takes a ridiculous amount of time and mostly just plain dumb luck (rather than skill) would be a subset of the ones currently suffering through 1.x. Probably a pretty small one unless this mentality becomes a relic of the "old game", and the item team stops feeling that the players need to hate themselves for suffering through this kind of nonsense to get anything, be it of value or not.
You didn't either lol. Nerfed CoP starting with Promyvions shortly after release? ToAU being the most casual friendly part of FFXI at that time? Abyssea? Solo Dynamis? Solo Salvage? (Still need 3 to enter) Raised level cap? All player wants and desires.
Let's not forget Blue Mage.
Use your head people..the game is going off line in a matter of weeks, they're focusing on the relaunch right now so there's literally no need to adjust something that will cease to exist very soon.

There are those of us who plan on playing the game for years to come regardless of how good it is, but SE needs to realize that if it's still a bad game it will keep us from recommending it to others. I ultimately stopped recommending XI to others because it was a huge time sink before Abyssea and a pathetic shadow of its former self after Abyssea. Word of mouth is worth a lot more than any trailer.Hopefully this isn't a sign of things to come. I completely agree, Hiruke. If enough fans say "this is not fun, please make a SMALL change to make it fun", why don't the devs listen? They should know that paying customers don't like being ignored.
In this particular case, you have a point. Let's just hope that they've learned from this experience. Even with the whole party aware that killing the elites when they go unclaimed does not result in drops, my party yesterday went for about 5 rounds with the Elite group and never got a hat. It's simply too glitchy. Sometimes their names stayed red even after they were technically unclaimed and standing idle.Use your head people..the game is going off line in a matter of weeks, they're focusing on the relaunch right now so there's literally no need to adjust something that will cease to exist very soon.

Greetings!
We discussed your feedback regarding the drop rates of imperial hats with the item team, however, they told us that they do not have any plans of making any adjustments.
We understand that you may feel the pressure of time to get these items, but don't panic! There is still a good amount of time to keep trying.![]()
Well I think that is just horse shit.Greetings!

Sorry, I don't find this excuse valid. Just like DL, you believe these abysmal drop rates are good for us when in actually all you have accomplished is getting us pissed off, stressed out, borderline quitting...the list goes on really. This luck based system you guys created for this game successfully brought out the worst in people, which is not how a community based game should work. Myself and others do nothing but complain every time we do dungeons that they have been spamming the dungeon content it's release to come out with almost nothing while people who do half the work they have to get almost two full sets of DL. That there is something that pisses off the community the most.Greetings!

I would like to go off and say to the item team for 1.xx that they failed miserably and showed not only FFXIV players, but the MMO community in general on how bad you can make a reward system. In my opinion and all the MMO's I have played over the years, this is by far the worst rewarding system ever created and I truly hope none of these concepts ever make it to 2.0 or you can guarantee you will never get the success you are aiming for. No one ever wants to see all their hard work go to waste like they did for CC/AV. Out of the 500+ times I have done these dungeons, I have "never" seen the corselet drop, not even once, not even an opportunity to get out lotted on it. I dedicated almost every day to your miserable game to come out with a few pair of gloves and an eye patch.
Then we hear the excuse "No worry guys! You will still have an opportunity to get this gear in 2.0!". Well, last I recall I payed for service in 1.xx and not 2.0, and the community heavily demanded that they rework the DL drops and that is the excuse we get, along with believing the drop rates are fair. SE, seven months and never getting the body piece I desired, please...convince me that the system is fair.
That is not all, lets add more gasoline to the fire here. An event with a mob that not that hard to beat, but still offers a very fair challenge, has an abysmal drop rate for somewhat decent hats. This is an event that only lasts a few weeks and the times the imperials come out is not often. How do you justify the low drop rate on this?
Sorry item team, like I said, you failed miserably and your methods were horrifying and lazy and I hope your ideals never make it to the 2.0 team.
/end rant
>_>
EDIT: One more thing, would it of really been that bad to add a token system to DL gear? You are lazy, its the only excuse for not doing this. Lazy.
Someone stop me, lol.

Wow I can't believe someone comes up with such an ignorant response >.>
I think if you read the OP's post again, you will notice that they point out that it's because it's a one off event that will never return.
Imo, they should definately do something about the drop rate. Like other people have said in earlier posts: everyone is not lucky enough to get these on their 1st, 5th or even 20th kill and everyone doesn't have 24/7 time to play FFXIV...
It's not like they are a game breaking items that only rare individuals should have... to me these are just mementos of the apocalyptic events that brought us ARR...
There is a little Monkey in all of us....

What do i ignore? YOU ignore the high drop rate, compare to stuff like DL. I ignore nothing and that is why i know it is not a low drop rate. considering the event-schedule and that you can duo a group+h1 with leaching, that you only need the kill to get the tricorne and that everyone and their mom allready have the tricorne and/or hat, it is indeed a very high droprate. If the event would go 24/7 all servers would be now like "wow, make this stuff harder.. its way to easy and to fast".
And where exactly did SE say that you wont be able to get them ARR? Speculations are not facts.
1. You dont need to play 24/7 to get them.Imo, they should definately do something about the drop rate. Like other people have said in earlier posts: everyone is not lucky enough to get these on their 1st, 5th or even 20th kill and everyone doesn't have 24/7 time to play FFXIV...
2. you can duo them, if you dont find the people.
3. you can also have a full group to make it even faster.
4. usually 1 hat drops out of 1 group+h1. sometimes none, sometimes 2. average is 1 per group tho.
If they are not game breaking items and since you dont get an achievement, what is all that whining about in first place? It's not like they are a game breaking items that only rare individuals should have... to me these are just mementos of the apocalyptic events that brought us ARR...
Remember, the original intent of XIV was to be as different from FFXI as possible. Token systems and the like were used in pretty much every end-game event after Limbus's introduction. If they just...you know, built off of FFXI like they should have, we'd probably have had something akin to 1,000 - 50,000 tokens required to purchase armors from dungeons.
There's multiple spawns of said '1 group of mobs'.
