    Future Returning Legacy Members

    Hey guys,

A friend of mine asked me to make this post because of something he's curious about, and frankly, I'm curious about it too.

He used to play until 3 months ago, he got busy with college and decided to stop playing until he's completely done (he's studying abroad right now).

He's a legacy member and been playing for 2 years. But because he want to completely focus on getting good grades, he won't be able to log in the game for like a year and a half, or two years. (And that's good for him in my opinion, by then the game will be completely different, much more content, new classes and jobs, new weapon, larger community..etc)

He says he will keep supporting the game and paying the monthly fee, he just won't be able to log in, and he's worried in 2 years he will face problems upon returning to the game.

So here are some questions that concern any player who has circumstances and won't be able to join 2.0 right away.

As far as the name change goes, we are currently doing everything in our powers to make sure we are able to meet your expectation.

Please let us know if you have any other feedback.
1- Will returning players have this one-time chance to change the appearance, race, and gender of their characters, when they log in for the first time a few months later? Or will there be a time limit?

2- What will happen to the data of the players who don't log in for a long time (Like in my friend's case: 2 years)? Assuming they will keep their accounts active. Will they be thrown into a random server, or they will still have the chance to choose a server?

I agreed to make this post because I do believe FFXIV:ARR will survive and be much better in 2 years, a totally different game with a great community and entertaining content.

PS: If you don't think the game will survive that long, you're not welcome in this post.

the one thing i'd advise is since it's free before it goes down and will be free when it first comes back up is to just sign in real fast and make the choice to be safe. i understand not wanting to play while working on his schooling, but signing in while free to make the server change would be the safest imo.

I'd like to add to that list. We know overflow items will go to a temporary retainer like npc.

We were never told if temporary means till items are taken out or after X amount of time.

This could be an issue for your friend as well.

I was able to have a life in college and get good grades...

At any rate, there is currently no information about the character recustomization other than we will get one. There may be a time limit, there may not, but nobody really knows.

I'm sure your friend will have a few minutes of free time at some point after the game comes out to log in, customize his character, and quit.

I agree with you, thanks for the advice, I think it's the best and safest way to insure he doesn't lose anything.
But the thing is.. he went abroad to study there, which means he doesn't have his desktop to log in upon launch. And his account is security-token protected so I can't log in for him either (and he doesn't have his security token with him).

And i think this applies to anyone who decides (or already decided) to just stop playing FFXIV for a while and come back later when it's completely different. I know many people who said they won't join ARR right away, they want to give it at least 2 or 3 months, or even more. And they will keep supporting the game.

If you have your friend call Square, they can remove the security token from his account which will allow you to log into it for him. I had to do this because my token was malfunctioning and not letting me access my account at all.

Bump! Because it is a very good question to ask, in spite of any measure we will be able to personally take.

It won't impact me, but it will impact others.
