Video card malfunction with the game

Some days I can run the game fine, other days the screen can flicker every so often, or go black, or with grown or green or grey lines across it. It also sometimes even shuts down the computer. Sometimes it "resets" the driver, giving me the error saying that the video card driver shut down and had to be rebooted (computer doesnt shut down, this fixes the problem).
It also often "breaks" my mouse. Making it look like its been cut up with a knife, and then glued back together by a 5 year old.
    Does anyone experience similar problems?

Artifacts are what your seeing its one of two things, your graphics card is over heating or a segment of memory is going bad. If its artifacting at the same time or the same zones your GFX Memory is going bad. if its completely random and doesn't happen at a particular map or zone it over heating.

there's also the off chance your running out of graphics memory, but i don't think the crystal tools allow over flowing. only two game engines that i know that allow you to physically go past your GFX memory limit are Games based on the CryEngine and Dices Frostbite.

It would probably help if you post your specs.

That sounds just like the issues I had when I had the NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT card. It caused the motherboard on my laptop to fry 4 times. If you DO have the card, then you should know that those cards were considered very faulty (the 8xxx series). If my old laptop were to run the game, it would immediately go up in flames. It could barely run FFXI on regular settings.

The occasional flicker/ artifact isn't necessary bad, sometimes it's just a bug in the driver.
Nvidia has had some artifact issues with their 600 series cards with some games, though most if not all have been fixed with newer drivers.

What video card do you use and what driver are you using? Have you tried newer or even older drivers to see if this solves your problem? Is your card overclocked?

Hmm well Im in college going for Bachelor in the Gaming Industry. Right now i just finished A+ very bored. So if your specifications are listed I can tell you what you need and right now I am using GEforce GTX 550 TI. Thats right the big baby, lol runs FFXiv perfectly even in Thanlan. If your using Vista please upgrade to Win 7 or Win 8. Win 8 is just like Win 7, just the Enterprise version. Also it gives FFXiv, a faster FPS, so well there are no problems.

Im sure that the problem can be fixed. You just dont know your comp as well as some of us do.

Hmmm sounds like it could be a heat related issue. As the card heats up a memory chip or other becomes unstable.

    Did you post your specs?

    Try this:

re seat the card sometimes it can wigle out of the slot a little take it out put it back in

get a prog to monitor the temp and a burn in one

    I use speedtest and videocardstabilitytest

burn the card in for few hours

This game is notorious for using too many resources and overheating computers. The Christmas trees last year fried video cards when people stood in them. Use a fan override program like EVGA precision X [for nvidia] and set up a fan curve [very simple and self-explanatory in the program] and it should keep you from crashing.

I'm not familiar with ATI cards, it could just be a driver or setting issue. But before you go playing around with all the different driver/setting combinations. Did you try stress testing the card to see if it's the card, or game/driver ?

Burn the card in for an hour or two, if it doesn't act up, you'll probably have to find a driver/setting that works for you.

P.S. I used to be able to game for days (not 24 hrs a day lol), without crashes. But with the recent patches, I tend to crash one or twice a day now.

    Bad SE bad
