i did say those were generous numbers in case you didn't notice the words in parentheses i know its much less than that which is why i said its a shitty idea. plus most ppl that have mac's are either facebook junkies or if they play games its not mainstream games let alone mmos

The new line of iMacs are more than capable of handling games tbh, and they don't even cost two grand. I played XIV back when it launched on my now 4 year old iMac through bootcamp and didn't have any real problems, to my surprise. Anyway, I wouldn't go out and buy one just to play FFXIV, that'll be silly imo, but I can see how others would want a native client and I don't think that'll be bad idea. It wouldn't be something at the top of SE's priority list but considering Blizzard and ArenaNet are supporting the platform, there obviously is a market for it.

And again, if you look at it from the standpoint of someone who already/only owns a Mac, it's silly to throw another $800 at a rig just for one game. Sadly, the fact of the matter is that the only way to play XIV on Mac at this point is to dualboot Boot Camp, and it doesn't help that Parallels and whatnot does not support Direct X, therefore making virtualization unfeasible for gaming.

While I understand their is allot going on with the relaunch on both the PC and the launch on the PS3, but it is my hope that once the dust settles that you could look into developing a native Mac client. Now I know there are those who will say "just get a 'real PC'" or "use parallels or Boot-Camp", but to be honest i just don't want to. I can play WoW on Mac(in fact almost all Blizzard games have a Mac client), I can even play GW2 on Mac, as well as a host of games on Steam. I understand the Mac may not be that popular in Japan, but hear in the US it an ever expanding market. So, I don't expect this soon, but just simply hope we can have it in the future.

    Addendum
I can be and may have been a bit snarky throughout this thread, but I was just annoyed at people telling me to do things I already acknowledged could be done. My point was not to point out workarounds, but to instead stress the fact that there are some people who would love a Mac native client. I am not asking for a day one Mac client release; I don't even expect one six months after the relaunch. I would however like to see at least a beta client a year from now. I do not believe it would steal to many resources considering GW2 is doing it and ArenaNet is not as big as SE, and before someone claims there is no market for it I go back to the fact that Blizzard and ArenaNet thinks otherwise. My biggest disappointment is that it is so hard to have a conversation about gaming on a Mac without it turning into a flame war.

    Addendum-2
I don't know how to stress this any further; this post is not about workarounds! it is about showing support for the possibility of eventually getting a native Mac client. So please stop telling me to use workarounds; they are not the point.
I really want to say get a real PC but being a realist it wouldn't hurt at all for them to make a MAC client, that is targeting yet another group and expand the player base by making a smart decision like that. Though perhaps they would want to see how the game does at relaunch before they jump into making anymore clients.

It doesn’t matter if you like PC's or Macs.. what ppl here need to understand is some people do and they will continue to do so.

I would sure like a Linux client so I can take the Win7 install I have with 3 programs installed on it and trash it as I don't do anything else on Windows. Sure makes my life convenient and thats what we are really talking about.. preference.

This is exactly what i was trying to get at. I really don't get why people feel so threatened by a request. it is not like I am asking the to take the tails off of Miqo'te!

Not to mention making your game on available on aMac can boost your sales.

Alternatives are good. Good things come from different places.. if Microsoft beat all their competitors IE would be the only way you could browse the web and you'd have to live with that.. but no, we got Firefox and KHTML the base for Safari and Chrome from Linux so now even windows users have options to choose what they like now.

Buying a Mac is a poor choice in investment. Being a gamer, I'd imagine if you want to have a large library of games, you'd do the research and realize that some devices have more games (both in quantity and quality) than other devices. I want to play games on my mobile devices, Apples App Store is more fleshed out for gaming apps on mobile devices than the Droid market is. So I'd get an iPad / iPhone / etc. Makes sense. I can see Mac doesn't have a large selection of games in terms of computer gaming, so I wouldn't make an expensive purchase that wouldn't fit my hobby of playing video games. Doesn't seem the work arounds seem to be enough for people, so why bother getting a Mac ? It seems the most logical choice both stress free and worry free about having easier access to the things you love; particularly gaming. Next time you make a new computer purchase, just reflect heavily on the pros and cons of owning a Mac, and if you're leaning more towards gaming, just get a PC and spare yourself the anguish of expecting developers to create a client for Mac. It's a hard pill to swallow I'm sure, but it is what it is.

Yeah, because it takes 6 months to build a proper opinion on something like an operating system. Some people just don't like Mac.

You made my day lol. That was like beating a vegitarian with a roll of Salami.

Although I may never understand the "Apple" cult, the more the merrier right?

Then when people buy a $1200 iMac to play "Angry Birds" they will also have the option to play FFXIV on medium to low settings.

Although a $400 laptop and a $100 SSD with Windows 8 just might be similar....

Um... This really is not true in the least bit; a current Imac can play id Software's Rage at high settings as well as many games. The AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB is not a sloucher in the least bit. What people also forget is that the monitor is one of the mane price points in the iMac; to purchase that type of monitor for a standard PC will set you back around $1,000. Also playing FFXIV in bootcamp it runs better than most people I know with a PC. All the Apple hate is pretty misinformed; the reason people like apple so much is that it just works so well. Every aspect of an iMac is interwoven so tightly that things just work out of the box.
