Can i have a Alienware port? Alienware are way better than mac and pc because the hardware is better, reallly well done and tested with the software.

    And that's a fact.

Before any PC user comments in a thread like this, they need to buy a Mac and spend six months using it before saying one damn word.

Aside from that problem though you don't need Bootcamp or Parallels or any of that garbage. As many people have posted already. The game ALREADY runs on Mac and Linux via Wine and Wine *IS* a native Win32 API on Unix, Wine runs Windows the same way Windows runs Windows, the only difference is the API is incomplete.

And yes it implements Direct X as well.

SE could improve it by taking the source code and recompiling the game with Winelib to create an official (yet unsupported) Mac/Linux client. This would probably take minimal effort as well seeing as it already works in Wine. They only need to change the build environment not the game code itself. Wine already implements enough of the API to allow XIV to run.

I would wholeheartedly support this as a viable alternative.

I have used a mac for the last year as my employer supplied me with one, and i do like the mac interface however the fact that it has an i7 quad core with 8 GB RAM and a 1 GB vid card and still performs poorer than my AMD desktop when it comes to FFXIV and the sheer amount of heat that it generates makes it a poor option for a native mac client (yes i am using bootcamp for XIV) think about the numbers for a moment mac users make up maybe 20% of all computers owned (and i think thats being generous) of that 20% maybe 5% are gamers (again generous) and of that 5% maybe 1% play FFXIV. its just not worth it to make a native mac client for SE. If ARR becomes a hit after relaunch maybe they can look into it but they will be developing content with ADHD like intensity for the next year at least before they can slow down enough to dedicate a team to develop a native mac client. it would be a better idea to release an XBOX version of the game from a financial standpoint than to release a mac client.

And while it may not be ideal and i can understand wanting a "real" mac version you will either have to use the workarounds (many of which work very well) or buy a PC. oh and btw OP if i were you i would not use parallels unless you wanna be running the game at lowest settings sacrificing half your macs power so you can run it along with mac os is not worth it.

It's like saying no we won't give people vegetarian or vegan or hell even gluten free food options because 90 percent of people don't care....I mean really?
Thing is, macs cost 2x or 3x more than a PC with similar specs. For that reason, a very small amount of people game on them. And SE, would rather not waste resources, porting to Mac, and getting (say 1000 people) vs porting to (for example) Xbox/PS3 and getting 2000 people.

So you're saying that 1 in 100 people who game on mac have FFXIV? Wouldn't that equate to like hundreds of times over our current player base?

If you want to buy me one and ship it to me I will, but I am not paying $2000 for something I can buy for $800, and then when I need I can upgrade for $500 rather than another $2000, buy me one and I will use it.
