I posted this truth months ago.
The relic quest was brought up when SE realized they didn't have enough content to keep the game going until 2.0 was released. So what they did was basically take every single bit of content available in the game and build a quest line out of it. As I'm sure many of you who have done the quest realize, it doesn't really flow. It feels like a mish-mash because it is a mish-mash and was hastily implemented to keep the keen players happy and most-importantly paying until 2.0.
I posted that by the end of August most who really wanted them and had the resources and skill to obtain them would have 2-3 while by the end of September (which coincidentally turned out to be the last month of billing) the high end would have over 5-7 while even semi-keen players would at least have 1 or be very very close to it.
I know it's a bitter pill to swallow but the whole relic quest was designed to keep everyone occupied and thus was hastily implemented. I would think SE is going to evaluate the quest-line come 2.0 to try and streamline the process to make it a bit more organic. Of course many who put through with it will complain, but let's be honest here, if the Relic quest wasn't put together many would have put the game down until 2.0. They might have come back for Van Darnus hard but other than that there really hasn't been much of anything released since relic.
Finally, I do think this whole relic quest is really going to hamper SE in the future as I posted before. They have claimed that Relic will be upgradeable in the future to keep it viable but by doing so they are hampering the design of other items because if they dare release something more powerful than a relic weapon (say a Crystal Tower drop) people here will be screaming bloody murder just like many people in WoW did when their Epics became lolworthy when Burning Crusade launched with superior greens.
Bottom line is it's here so we might as well do it, but I do think it was a poor decision to launch the relic quest prior to 2.0 as it could really handcuff SE down the road.
Also Hamlet is ridiculous. There is no feasible reason why you need 3 seals from each Hamlet. Of course since the seal rush has died down considerably it is still quite easy to get in the top 3 during a weekday if you have a crafting class or gathering class leveled. Regardless, I would love to see the SE's private design documents and plans with regard to Hamlet. I'm willing to bet that they tacked on the 9 seal requirement to Hamlet when they realized NOBODY was doing Hamlet when it launched.
The circle is vicious anyhow. Those who did something first in any game will always complain when something is made easier down the road. But such is the fate of all games and MMO's. People should just accept this reality.
