I like it. I'm not sure how it's going to feel after seeing it hundreds of times but it looks pretty cool. the gif you posted looks way worse than it actually does.

I would like to see different animations at least for different types of magic. casting protect shouldn't look like you are about to drop meteor from the sky or something. you could leave the hand/wand to the forehead for milder spells.
