None of it is even going to matter if they don't get out there and start building up some real hype about this game. Half the shit they talk about during the events they go to talk obscurely about 'new stuff'. Which is almost always something we've heard before, and the only people listening are people who have invested time into the game thus far.

I watch TV for 1/2hour - 1hour a day, and I see commercials for the new WoW expansion all the time (pre and post release). If there isn't a huge influx of players at the launch of 2.0 the game is going to be worse than it is now. Cool new graphics and content is great, but we're the only people that know and are excited about it.

That being said, wiping character data would only put you at the same level as the next returning person, not a new person.

    and

The Market Wards are close enough to an auction house now, would I rather not have to enter the wards to search for an item? of course! Does it make me want to quit like the 1.0 market wards? Hell no.

You Hurrred when you were supposed to Duuuuuuur. For that I give op's troll:

    Zero points.

It would have been much more funny if he didn't mix a realistic argument with a totally ridiculous one. Market wards are actually bad. Troll harder next time.

    things wrong with the wards.

1:- inability to put retainers in a relevant ward. that is assuming you can get them in a ward at all.
2:- inability to search for hq / melded gear exclusively.
3:- the ball ache of running back and forth when trying to value your items.
    4:- speed of the interface.
5:- inability to properly use the seek item feature. so much potential there but nope it's useless.

If I can buy / sell what I want quickly and hassle free then yes. and I mean 4 things with that statement really:-

1: If for example I want to buy a cobalt winglet+1 I can buy one without having to run through every ward because the item search results say there are 60 of them but list only the 20 lowest priced nq's or the same if I wanted to buy a pair of triple melded raptor skin gloves. where the item search results are full of unmelded or single melded items pushing the types of items I seek off the list entirely.

2: If the seek item feature worked in a sensible fashion then yes. for example I've looked for ash tuna and found it was 3 weeks since any was sold. It would be nice if my retainer could seek them and somehow fisherman could see that I want x amount and I'm willing to pay y for them. As it stands now if I want to seek 99 ash tuna then I have to already have 99 ash tuna and it also means that anyone with 50 ash tuna can't sell them to me unless they have 99.

3: If I wanted to sell something on my retainer it became hassle free to get a valuation. for example as soon as I click sell item and the box comes up to set my price it also bought up another box that listed the price history saving me a lot of hassle. rather than having to write down a list of everything i want to sell and spending 15-20 minutes scrolling through the item search writing down prices and then running back to my retainer to list them and then repeating in 2 or 3 days to get more recent prices etc etc.

4: If I want to buy multiple items i can do so in one transaction. for example if i want to buy 5 axes to go and spirit bond I could search once and click the 5 items i wanted to buy without having to start the whole process for each axe or item.

I have to agree with this too. GW2 to me is a very enjoyable way to level, but i also liked leveling in parties in FFXI, but as a class that was needed in parties, like rdm, or whm.

Imo, FFXIV ARR will have a very small niche. I highly doubt it will attract the hardcore MMO player, and I suspect it may not even attract the FFXI playerbase. I think when all i's are dotted and t's crossed with this game, it will be left with what the current player base is at this point. However, for me, I'm excited about player housing and such. I just hope there is good endgame content too.

and map completion gives an okay xp boost but the xp/hour compared to the other options is pretty awful. so generally you're stuck... what's the word...

...grinding? lol yep. grinding the same style quest over and over. that's reality, bub. no amount of marketing buzzword hype can change that.
Map completion is good xp. You still get to 80 pretty quickly and most people if not everyone i played went that route cause they wanted to enjoy the game not make a mad rush to 80. I could see people doing the typical grind-the-fastest way possible if map completion gave shit xp but it doesn't. I know people who got to 80 in just WvW. You got all these different ways to level up but you're right they all suck compared to xiv where killing the same doblyn a million times over is so much more fun or waiting 4 hours for a party invite like in xi(queue up the "I never waited for a party" responses). I like xiv but it could learn a lot from a game like gw2. I really hope yoshi plays it and sees how awesome some of the jump puzzles are in that game and tries to put some in ARR.
