In my eye 4 things are threatening to kill off 2.0.

    1) Regional Servers if the population in all regions is not large enough to support a game where it only functions 8 hrs a day. IF there is only 1000ppl online a day... the server economy will crash and the game will more or less die out quickly even if it is strong in other areas... see Aion.
Here I think it depends on how large the population gets. A US based server may not be the first choice for a Japanese player or vice versa, but it might be the only choice if the local servers are full. We'll have to see how this plays out over the next year. I think their reasoning is that because you can choose to flag up across multiple servers and play with people outside your region its still a multinational community, but having local servers would provide advantages to the players in those regions. You could actually see Japanese players choose US servers for the simple reason that there will be less competition for content during their own prime time hours.

    4) Extreme casualness. What is killing WoW off. Listening to the playerbase is good caving into them is the worst thing ever. The customer very seldom is 100% right, honestly I will go as far as saying the customer is never right. Company need to listen but not blatantly do what the masses demand or you get clones and dull/insta-win/no innovation content.
The Relic weapon quests give me hope that they will be adding content that appeals to people who want content that takes a lot of time and effort to obtain. I see the current weapons as more akin to XI's AF than XI's Relic. Hopefully when we get to the higher level tiers we will start to see game changing items akin to Excalibur and Morrigans. Currently I think the games architecture prevents them from adding instances more like the dynamis areas, so we got small dungeons to hold us over. The fact that they are removing them seems to me an indication that they aren't in line with the type of content they want in 2.0.
