    There is a very good possibility this is the case for new players, but even for ones up to speed so to speak, it doesn't explain Atomos, and when 2.0 launches, I think many of the current playerbase will be too into exploring and wrapping their heads around the new game, rather than taking time to help the new players.

    Once again, just a personal opinion.

    Maybe on the old servers but this is part of the reason for not allowing old chr's to transfer to new worlds, so they can build their own economy (see newest dev tracker explaining this)

    I'm starting over as a personal choice. thats the beauty of what they have done, allowed the players the choice to keep all their hard work from 1.0 or start fresh. i choose this because i wish to experience the new world from the ground up, what you propose with a chr wipe is to remove that choice. i cant support that.

    Yes, in an aging MMO you will encounter this problem. same goes for WoW until the next Class expansion comes out then its busy with everyone being the new class until they majority are at max level. same is happening now, heck i'm level 45 and cant find a party for quests or people wont help cause its too low... i can tell you right now, if there was a chr wipe, the world would be empty. who would want to play right now if all their efforts were for nothing?

    What have you heard about 2.0 that is not exciting? here are a few things i'm excited for;
    limit breaks
    crystal tower
    housing
    chocobo raising
    3 in depth story's to follow not to mention the factions
    pvp
    personal airships
    golden saucer

    while some of these wont be there at launch there is still
    new quests that aid in level progression without relying on Leve's
    Arcanist
    all new maps to explore
    story to discover
    crystal tower

    and this is just what i can think of off the top of my head. i'm sorry you arent excited but there are legitimate things to draw people in. these things are enough to keep me busy while i wait for the next feature they want to add. it's disheartening to see so many people giving up on the game before its even entered alpha/beta. even at 1.0 launch, despite all the things wrong with it i saw lots of potential and watching what Yoshi-P has done and continuing to do, i'm quite optimistic. but this is just my opinion.

    It can't be too much lower, yoshi has stated more than once they have to move hundreds of thousands of characters data over for 2.0. Even taking into account that many of those characters may be on the same account, I think even 35k is low balling it. Again, I dont want to start the 30 millionth argument about what we THINK player population is, I just think its over 50k. I could be totally wrong though, same as you.
