All the info you ever wanted, coming "soon"!

Prior to the launch of Diablo 3 there was a big deal made about things coming "soon". The release date will be revealed "soon! 3 months later we get the release date. Updates for a flood of info regarding ARR will be coming "soon"!

This is supposed to be a light hearted post about what people define as "soon" and how the use of the word seems to be more to placate people thirsting to know exactly what they are doing.

I'm quite happy to get info as it comes, i dont want to put extra pressure on people developing a game because i know they have much better things to do than to deal with a thousand back-seat "developers" nagging "are we there/is it done yet?!?" I would much rather they take their time (not too long i hope) and get it right this time.

It took the Blizzard team roughly 10 years to develop D3, an MMO would take much more time. Sure they have a basic template for most of FFXIV but they are almost rebuilding the entire thing from the client to the server structure to the source coding and beyond. for them to have gotten almost into alpha phase in almost 2 years is very soon, in perspective.

While we are all excited and eager to play the final project they are moving at an incredible pace. also judging from the (at times) less than kind forum user-base i can understand why they are hesitant to release any info, it seems no matter what it is there are those people who not only disagree but do so vehemently. This only sours the pot for the rest of us.

Anyway, even if the game is not released until next summer it will still have come out quite "soon" we just need to be a little patient in the mean time.

Troll: Patience? ya ya, how long will that take?

    Troll feeder: Soon...

Yeah they should go ahead and do the same thing they did last time this game launched, that will work well
But on a serious note they shouldn't make so many times/dates and miss every single one of them, if that's the case it's best to never give them

I really don't care anymore, it will come when it comes. They are a business, they do what they have to do.

It's a bad business practice to miss deadlines constantly though. They don't "owe" us anything so to speak, but they do owe it to themselves if they actually expect to garner enough interest for this relaunch to even matter.

There's a reason people were hyped to shit about Super Smash Brothers Brawl, anticipating the next character reveal or information on a weekly/bi-weekly basis for a few months, even that was enough to keep interest in the series and gain hype for the release of Brawl.

^ Agreed. Its best not to give set dates if you are unwilling/unable to meet them. I personally just ignore the dates they put out and check for info when I feel like it.

    fully agree
If there is a deadline there is hell no way i can miss it.
You loose clients that way and if you keep loosing clients there goes your money

There is also suppose to be a header if your making your own deadlines.
ie"think i may be done in a week" give it a couple more days
in the case of this game that is trying to relunch itself.
    they should have no mistakes

I totally agree with deadlines, just replace all the dates with "Soon" and there should be no complaints. Right?

I'd rather have missed deadlines than a less than optimal game. Everyone should agree because we already know what an unfinished product is like. Let them work and do what they have to do on their own time.

This works in terms of making the game, giving information however shouldn't have to be the equivalent of going through customs.
