Gear damage is used to encourage smart playing and not dying....
Instituting XP loss on death...encouraging smart playing and not dying...both enrages people LOL. PEOPLE will ragequit the game ...
I ragequitted FF11 after dying dying and losing and gaining the same level 20 times. So NO THANKS!
THE WHOLE POINT OF GEAR REPAIR IS A GIL SINK, AND ALSO FOR PEOPLE TO FLIPPIN' PLAY TOGETHER. If you hate that so much go play a solo RPG.
Yeah except your gear is also damaged as a result of playing the game and not dying.Gear damage is used to encourage smart playing and not dying....

My thing with gear damage is that there really needs to be a visual cue to go along with it, opposed to the little icon that means your perfectly pristine equipment is 'horribly mangled'. Scuffs, tears, chips etc. If my sword is suddenly doing 2 damage, I expect it to be broken in half
That was the original idea behind it.My thing with gear damage is that there really needs to be a visual cue to go along with it, opposed to the little icon that means your perfectly pristine equipment is 'horribly mangled'. It annoying to have to regain level no matter how fast it may be to get back. It's still an inconvenient thing than anything.
It has 0 to do with player skill.
I am not saying I am the best Red Wizard ever. But when the tank dies on a boss and then it comes at me, and I die. What could I do to avoid that death? Nothing. It's not my fault, if the tank dies and the party wipes.
So for people to say they want exp los cause it's a bigger challenge, and makes people try harder. It doesn't. It makes me have to go out of my way for someone else's mistake. To which I say people who want it, should have to lose their levels removed when they log out to know what it feels like.
Like someone else said, dying is the inconvenience. There are fights where you're guaranteed to die the first couple/ten/twenty times as you learn it. The fact that I have to start the entire thing over again, waste food, roll the RNG on boss moves, and hope everyone can perform exactly as before save for the last part is the inconvenience. I shouldn't have to run back to camp and dump gil into repairs or forget my weapon is at 11% and have it break going through an instance.
I understand SE thinks they need some additional consequence to death, and that gear repairs offer a nice little gil sink, but I'd rather pay a higher fee in the wards than deal with the mess of repairs.
Are you implying that I have to level my crafting jobs in order to play a mage ? Oh look I'm level 30 now, I can't fix my gear, I better stop XPing.
I like the idea of damaged gear. It's an incentive to not die as much and to player better as your class. However, I don't like gear being damaged normally from use. Death is fine, not use.
But for the love of anything good-game-development, do NOT add exp loss. That's overboard. Very, very overboard.
Sadly, I really cant distinguish between people trolling or if they really are this stupid.
Tis a sad day.
On that note, btw. I support the gear damaging aspect of the game, you break it, you repair it. Its fine the way it is. Its leaps and bounds better than losing exp for dying. You think having to repair your gear (which doesnt even matter until your gear gets to 10% or less durability anyways, you realize this right?) is annoying. Try being in a party, or an event, dying over and over again while strategy is being tweaked and oh look, now you're level 49, yay. Lets go exp grind, but wait, exp grinding on mobs doesnt work now, we need an event or a quest to pull our levels back up, well isnt that just something. But this is SO much better than going to an NPC and paying a few gil to get my gear repaired, or throw in some dark matter and having a friend (or stranger) fix it up. God, now THAT was annoying..
Yeah. I went there.
