I love the official forums, they tell you to use the search for thread about what you wanted to talk but when you use it they judge for necro a thread.
I am still all for being "unlocked". I'm not saying something super difficult, just some kinda quest to unlock the level 1 book. That's all! Since the arch guild's been all closed doors and all, just have it as a simple quest to talk to people there or something, or collect super-simple to get item x5, or something. Or get some items from npc's around the city that equal same price as the weapons go for from npc normal. Simple things like that!
Also, note, that Yoshi-P has said you can only start as DoW/DoM until 10, so he's already limiting what new players can start as. Why would you want them to have the newest of the new jobs unlockable to them when no one will be able to answer any questions they may have? Not trying to be unfair, but let the vets have alittle time with them first, to get some experience with them, learn stats and cap and all that, ext. (Not that most jobs are hard or anything, but some people still durp rotations/sort up >_>)
Considering how extensive the battle changes are looking us "vets" are gonna be out there relearning with the new players. Even if that wasn't the case there's no real reason to lock new players out of new jobs. Nubs will be nubs regardless of whether the class is new. Also, note, that Yoshi-P has said you can only start as DoW/DoM until 10, so he's already limiting what new players can start as. Also, a pointless and tedious quest to unlock a class is a no go in my book.
They have already said that crafting and gathering classes won't be available as your first class pick. So it wouldn't be a huge stretch to have unlockable classes.
I'm okay with unlocking "advance" classes with a quest as long as they aren't pointless little quests, should have style like ffxi.
I'm all for having new classes having a quest chain to unlock. More content for me to do.

While some advocate about class distinction or class equality... I say that's b/s because all the classes aren't equal in the first place. The opportunity is there that they can all surpass each other but that requires some user skill and some decent gear.
By the sound of some posts in this thread you can tell the ones who complain about so called "class equality" are the ones that either play horribly or put less than minimal effort to get decent gear(which honestly isn't hard at all).
In the end, I feel it is the player that makes the class/job and not the class/job that makes the class/job.

You realize that if all the classes have the opportunity to surpass each other, then that gives them equal potential for greatness, right? You're only supporting the equality concept that you seem to be trying to dismiss.I'm all for having new classes having a quest chain to unlock. More content for me to do.
